Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of product features, from requirement analysis and technical design to development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Design and build highly scalable, reliable, secure, and high-performance web applications and microservices.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, tech leads, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Drive technical design discussions and make architectural decisions that ensure scalability and maintainability.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
  • Perform code reviews and contribute to improving engineering standards, development processes, and system reliability.
  • Analyse production issues, troubleshoot complex problems, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Contribute to frontend development when required using React and modern web technologies.
  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and help drive continuous improvement within the team.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building a strong engineering culture.

Core Backend Skills

The core requirements for the job include the following:

  • 4+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • Strong expertise in Java and object-orientated programming (OOP) principles.
  • Extensive experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Experience with ORM frameworks such as Hibernate/JPA.
  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, API design principles, and backend best practices.
  • Experience designing and optimising highly performant and scalable backend systems.

Database Expertise

  • Strong experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or DynamoDB.
  • Strong understanding of database design, indexing, query optimisation, transactions, and performance tuning.

Frontend Skills

  • Working knowledge of React.js and modern JavaScript.
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frontend application architecture.
  • Ability to contribute to UI development and collaborate effectively with frontend engineers.
  • Aware of tools like Vite, Prettier, ESLint.

Engineering Practices

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns and engineering best practices.
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
