Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team and help build the foundational systems that power Chargebee at scale.

This role is focused on designing and building highly scalable backend platforms, shared services, developer infrastructure, and mission-critical capabilities that enable multiple product teams across the organization. You will work on complex engineering challenges involving reliability, performance, scalability, and operational excellence while contributing to the long-term evolution of Chargebee's platform architecture.

The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot, has experience building large-scale distributed systems, and enjoys solving platform-level problems that improve engineering velocity and product reliability across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain highly scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop platform capabilities, shared services, and infrastructure components that serve multiple engineering teams.
• Drive architecture decisions around scalability, resiliency, observability, and operational excellence.
• Build reliable APIs, asynchronous workflows, and event-driven systems that can operate at high scale.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to deliver platform solutions that improve developer productivity and system reliability.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks across services, databases, and distributed systems.
• Contribute to cloud-native architecture and platform modernization initiatives.
• Participate in production operations, incident reviews, and continuous reliability improvements.
• Mentor engineers and drive engineering best practices around design, code quality, testing, and deployment.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience developing enterprise-grade web applications using React.js, JavaScript (ES6+), and Redux.
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture patterns and modern SPA development practices.
• Proven experience in developing and maintaining component libraries and design systems for large-scale applications.
• Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, and responsive UI design, with an emphasis on cross-browser compatibility and accessibility (WCAG standards).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including experience with frontend deployment and monitoring tools.
• Strong debugging, profiling, and optimization skills related to both compile-time and runtime performance.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and experience working in cross-functional Agile teams.
• Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with design, product, and engineering stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, drive projects independently, and own outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in Platform Engineering, or Developer Productivity teams.
• Experience with Kafka, messaging systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Exposure to Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native technologies.
• Full-stack development experience with React.js or modern frontend frameworks.
• Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or shared engineering frameworks.
• Familiarity with AI-powered developer workflows and platform capabilities.
