individual contributor role focused primarily on
backend services, APIs, data infrastructure, and production systems.
You'll work deeply across our
Node.js and AWS stack to design, build, and operate systems that power core product workflows at scale.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services, internal systems, and APIs with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, and scalability
- Own backend architecture and execution for core product workflows, including service design, data modeling, asynchronous processing, and external integrations
- Solve difficult engineering problems such as debugging production incidents, optimizing slow database queries, improving system throughput, and refactoring brittle services
- Build and operate systems for scale — including multi-tenant SaaS workflows, high-throughput APIs, event-driven systems, background jobs, and distributed processing pipelines
- Design robust backend patterns around queues, retries, idempotency, caching, consistency, and fault tolerance
- Write clean, well-tested, and well-documented code, and raise the quality bar through thoughtful code reviews and mentoring
- Partner with Product, Design, and frontend engineers to translate ambiguous requirements into reliable backend systems and clean API contracts
- Own what you build in production — including instrumentation, monitoring, alerting, incident investigation, and iterative improvements
- Contribute meaningfully to technical design and architecture discussions; propose, challenge, and refine ideas with sound engineering judgment
- Stay curious and pragmatic about tools, patterns, and infrastructure choices that improve engineering velocity and system quality
Requirements
- 4–6 years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production software, with meaningful backend ownership
- Strong depth in at least one backend language and framework
- JavaScript/TypeScript with Node.js is strongly preferred, but we value deep backend strength over exact stack matching
- Experience building and operating backend systems at scale — such as multi-tenant SaaS platforms, high-throughput services, distributed systems, or data-intensive applications
- Strong hands-on experience with databases and data access patterns, including SQL and/or NoSQL systems such as Postgres, DynamoDB, MongoDB, or similar
- Good understanding of tradeoffs in schema design, indexing, consistency, and query performance
- Comfort with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, including services such as Lambda, ECS, SQS, S3, and related backend infrastructure patterns
- Experience designing APIs, background jobs, event-driven workflows, and service integrations with a clear understanding of failure modes and operational tradeoffs
- Strong debugging and ownership mindset — comfortable reading logs, tracing requests across systems, reproducing edge cases, and driving issues to root cause
- Good understanding of testing strategies across unit, integration, and system-level concerns for backend services
- Strong written and verbal communication, especially in a remote-first environment
- Curiosity, accountability, and a high standard for engineering craft
