Senior Software Engineer - AS400

Position Summary

Staples is modernizing its Warehouse Management System. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated AS400 Developer with expertise in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and integration with multiple systems. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience with AS400 systems, integration methodologies, MQ messaging, and SQL/400. This role will involve designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions, ensuring seamless communication and data flow between various systems.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

· Develop, maintain, and enhance AS400-based applications, specifically within Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

· Design, implement, and troubleshoot integrations between AS400 and other enterprise systems, ensuring efficient data exchange.

· Work closely with other teams to understand and document integration requirements and business processes.

· Analyze, design, and implement handshake protocols using MQ messaging, ensuring smooth data transfer and process synchronization.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to document and design integration flows, addressing issues or improvements as needed.

· Develop and maintain SQL/400 queries, ensuring data accuracy and performance optimization.

· Investigate and resolve system issues, utilizing strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

· (Optional) Experience with coding RESTful APIs (JSON) on AS400, helping integrate AS400 systems with modern web-based services.

· Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration and system communication issues across different platforms.

· Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to best practices.

Essential Skills Required:

· Proven experience as an AS400 Developer with a focus on Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

· Strong knowledge and experience with AS400, MQ (Message Queues), and socket communication protocols.

· Expertise in SQL/400, with experience in database design, querying, and performance tuning.

· Experience troubleshooting and solving complex integration problems in a multi-system environment.

· Familiarity with RESTful APIs and JSON, with an understanding of how they can be leveraged on the AS400 platform (nice to have).

· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical issues and propose effective solutions.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills for understanding, documenting and explaining integration processes across multiple systems.

· Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment while managing individual responsibilities.

Preferred Skills:

· Knowledge of PKMS/ Manhattan Active WMS software and supply chain management processes.

· Experience with system integrations, data exchange protocols, and middleware tools.

· Familiarity with modern development practices and tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, etc.)
