About the Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Scrum Master / Agile Champion to join the American Express team in Bangalore. This is an excellent opportunity for an Agile leader with a strong technical background who can drive Agile transformation, coach teams, improve delivery excellence, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
Please Note: This role requires working in a hybrid model with 3 days per week onsite at the American Express office in Bangalore.
Required Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, preferably within the BFSI domain.
Strong IT/Technology background in both education and professional experience. This is not a process-only Scrum Master role.
Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and frameworks:
- Scrum
- Kanban
- SAFe ceremonies
Strong expertise in:
- Jira Cloud,
- Confluence,
- Workflow Design,
- Dashboards,
- Process Governance,
Proven Agile coaching and mentoring experience to improve team maturity.
Ability to collaborate across multiple time zones with overlap during US Eastern Time working hours.
Strong understanding of:
- Data Modeling,
- Data Ingestion,
- Data Migration,
- Big Data Ecosystems, (Hive, Hadoop, etc.)
Knowledge of DevOps concepts including:
- CI/CD Pipelines,
- Build & Deployment Workflows,
Familiarity with Cloud Technologies, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Nice to Have
- Experience managing Data Engineering, Data Platform, or Data Lake programs.
- Agile Certifications such as:
- CSM,
- PSM,
- SAFe Scrum Master,
- SPC,
- Equivalent Agile Certifications,
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies and actively participate in PI Planning.
- Track PI Objectives, Sprint Goals, Capacity Planning, Risks, Confidence Votes, and Commitments within Jira.
- Act as the liaison between leadership and engineering teams.
- Manage dependencies, blockers, and risks while collaborating closely with Technical Program Managers.
- Work closely with Product Owners, RTEs, Data Engineers, and Application teams.
- Develop a deep understanding of the product roadmap, architecture, testing strategy, and delivery plans.
- Proactively identify risks and propose practical solutions before they impact delivery.
- Prepare and publish:
- Sprint Reports
- Capacity Planning Sheets
- Retrospective Boards
- Dependency Trackers
- Risk Dashboards
- Change Management Boards
- Build and maintain Agile delivery metrics including:
- Velocity
- Lead Time
- Cycle Time
- Bug Trends
- Sprint Automation Metrics
- Maintain Jira workflows, dashboards, sprint metrics, and overall Jira hygiene.
- Keep project documentation accurate, current, and easily accessible.
- Ensure a healthy product backlog and coach teams on User Story creation, Acceptance Criteria, and backlog quality.
- Translate long-term product roadmaps into actionable sprint plans.
- Partner effectively with Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, and Business stakeholders.
- Drive Agile maturity and continuous improvement across multiple teams.
