Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced industry professional with expertise in analytical method development for herbal/natural products to drive rapid, reliable, and scalable analytical support for herbal cosmetic product development.
This role is focused on instrumentation, standardization, and method development, with working knowledge of UV spectrophotometry. Bioassays will be handled by a separate team.
Key Responsibilities:
Analytical Method Development
- Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for:
- Herbal extracts
- Phytoconstituents (marker-based analysis)
- Finished formulations
- Establish fingerprinting and standardization protocols (HPTLC/HPLC-based)
Instrumentation & Lab Operations
- Independently operate, maintain, and troubleshoot:
- HPLC
- HPTLC
- GC-MS (Headspace)
- UV-Visible Spectrophotometer
- Ensure high instrument uptime, calibration, and performance reliability
- Develop and implement SOPs for analytical workflows
UV Spectrophotometry (Focused Requirement)
- Develop and execute UV-based quantitative assays for:
- Total phenolics, flavonoids, etc.
- Routine quality checks and rapid screening
- Support method transfer from chromatography to UV (where applicable) for faster turnaround
Product Development Support
- Collaborate with formulation and phytochemistry teams to:
- Support raw material qualification
- Address batch variability
- Provide analytical inputs for stability studies
- Enable fast decision-making for product development cycles
Data Integrity & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- GLP / GMP practices
- Internal documentation standards
- Prepare:
- Method validation reports
- Analytical summaries for internal decision-making
Important Scope Clarification
- ❌ This role does NOT involve running enzyme-based bioassays
- ✅ Candidate should have basic understanding of bioassay data interpretation to collaborate effectively with the bioactivity team
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- PhD in:
- Natural Products / Phytochemistry / Analytical Chemistry / Pharmaceutical Sciences
- 5–10 years of industry experience
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- HPLC, HPTLC, GC-MS
- UV spectrophotometry (method development level, not just routine use)
Must-Have Skills:
- Analytical method development & validation
- Botanical extract standardization
- Chromatographic troubleshooting
- Practical, solution-oriented approach to lab challenges
Good-to-Have:
- Experience in herbal cosmetics / nutraceuticals
- Familiarity with AYUSH / cosmetic regulatory frameworks
- Exposure to scale-up and commercial product support
