Job Description

About the role

SHARC Hire is hiring for a leading Indian manufacturer of fire safety products. As Senior Sales Manager – Government Vertical, you will own the client's government business across India. That means getting products approved and enlisted with government infrastructure bodies, getting the brand listed as Preferred Make in tenders, and converting awarded tenders into purchase orders with the winning contractors.

Location: New Delhi, with extensive pan-India travel

Reports to: Director

Department: Sales & Business Development

What you'll do

  1. Government approvals & vendor enlistment
  • Get the company and products listed in the Approved Makes List of central bodies (CPWD, NBCC, NPCC, RITES, MES, AAI) and state bodies (State PWDs, Housing Boards, Metro Rail Corporations, Industrial Development Corporations)
  • Ensure product documentation meets each department's technical eligibility criteria: IS Standards, NBC compliance, UL/FM certifications
  • Build relationships with Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers and Architects in government bodies to understand upcoming requirements
  1. Specification management (Spec-in)
  • Work with government architects and MEP consultants to include the brand's specifications and technical parameters in the DPR and BoQ before the tender is floated
  • Attend pre-bid meetings to defend technical specifications and keep the brand in the final tender document
  1. Tender management & sales closing
  • Track fire safety tenders on GeM, CPPP and TenderTiger
  • Once a tender is awarded, identify and approach the L1 / awarded contractor
  • Negotiate commercials with the contractor to convert the spec-in advantage into a purchase order
  • Coordinate with regional distributors and channel partners to supply the contractor where direct billing doesn't apply
  1. Market intelligence & strategy
  • Map government infrastructure across India to identify high-value projects: Smart Cities, high-rise housing, hospitals, convention centres
  • Track competitor activity in the government sector and build counter-strategies

What you bring

  • 10–15 years of experience in project sales / institutional sales
  • Must-have: minimum 5 years of direct experience with CPWD, NBCC, PWDs and other government departments
  • Proven track record in the fire safety industry (fire fighting systems, alarms, hydrants, sprinklers or passive fire protection) or other project-related products
  • Deep understanding of the National Building Code (NBC), relevant fire safety IS Standards, and government tendering processes
  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred); MBA in Marketing or Sales is a plus
  • An existing network within CPWD/NBCC or top-tier MEP consultants is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in English and Hindi is mandatory; regional languages are an asset
  • Ability to navigate bureaucratic processes, persevere through long approval cycles, and convince technical committees
  • Willingness to travel extensively across India to department headquarters and project sites

How success is measured

  • New government department approvals/enlistments secured per quarter
  • Value of projects where the brand is specified in the tender
  • Conversion rate of spec-in projects into contractor purchase orders
  • Total revenue from the government vertical
