Job Description

Department: International Affairs

Job Purpose

The said official will be responsible for managing FICCI's engagement strategy and strengthening its position as the premier voice of Indian industry in international markets. The role will drive bilateral and multilateral partnerships, trade and investment promotion, economic diplomacy, and international policy advocacy while fostering strategic relationships with governments, embassies, multilateral institutions, business chambers, and global corporations.

The position will oversee FICCI's regional desks, international business councils, country committees, and global partnerships, ensuring alignment with India's economic priorities and FICCI's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. International Strategy & Positioning (25%)

  • Develop and execute FICCI's international engagement strategy across key geographies.
  • Position FICCI as India's leading industry platform for global business collaboration.
  • Identify emerging geopolitical and economic trends impacting Indian industry.
  • Drive initiatives supporting India's international trade, investment, and economic diplomacy agenda.

2. Bilateral & Multilateral Engagement (20%)

  • Build and strengthen relationships with foreign governments, embassies, multilateral agencies, and international business organizations.
  • Lead engagement with institutions such as WTO, World Bank, ADB, UN agencies, BRICS, G20, and regional economic forums.
  • Facilitate high-level government-to-business and business-to-business interactions.
  • Support policy dialogue and international cooperation initiatives.

3. Trade & Investment Promotion (15%)

  • Lead trade missions, business delegations, investment forums, and international conferences.
  • Facilitate market access and investment opportunities for Indian companies.
  • Promote cross-border partnerships and joint ventures.
  • Support internationalization of Indian businesses across priority sectors.

4. Policy Advocacy & Thought Leadership (15%)

  • Lead development of policy recommendations on trade, investment, international relations, and economic cooperation.
  • Drive preparation of position papers, white papers, and knowledge reports.
  • Represent FICCI in national and international policy discussions.
  • Provide strategic inputs on global economic developments affecting Indian industry.

5. Stakeholder & Partnership Development (10%)

  • Develop strategic partnerships with global chambers, industry associations, think tanks, and development organizations.
  • Strengthen FICCI's international network and influence.
  • Build long-term relationships with key stakeholders across regions.

6. Revenue Generation & Business Development (10%)

  • Drive sponsorships, partnerships, and project-based revenue opportunities.
  • Mobilize resources through international collaborations and development initiatives.
  • Ensure financial sustainability of international programs and activities.

7. Leadership & Team Management (5%)

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing international affairs team.
  • Oversee regional desks, country committees, and international projects.
  • Foster collaboration across sectoral, state, and international teams.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • 20+ years of experience in international trade, diplomacy, economic policy, business development, or industry associations.
  • Deep understanding of international business, trade policy, and geopolitical developments.
  • Extensive network across governments, embassies, multilateral institutions, and global industry.
  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership capability.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in leading large-scale international initiatives and partnerships.
  • Strong communication, representation, and public speaking skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex multi-country and multi-stakeholder engagements.

Preferred Background

  • Senior roles in international business, trade promotion, economic diplomacy, or policy organizations.
  • Experience working with government ministries, international organizations, or global consulting firms.
  • Exposure to international trade negotiations, investment promotion, and multilateral engagement.
  • Advanced degree in International Relations, Economics, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related field.
