Job Description


The Senior Resident in Biochemistry is expected to contribute to the diagnostic, academic, and research functions of the biochemistry department. This role includes supervising laboratory processes, ensuring quality control, participating in teaching activities, and contributing to the clinical interpretation of lab results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor day-to-day operations of the clinical biochemistry laboratory.
  • Validate and interpret biochemical test results and correlate them clinically.
  • Ensure timely reporting of critical lab values and proper documentation.
  • Implement and monitor internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assurance (EQA) programs.
  • Work closely with clinicians to support diagnosis and management of diseases.
  • Participate in departmental teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Assist in research activities, protocol development, and data analysis.
  • Maintain compliance with NABL/ISO accreditation standards and biosafety protocols.
  • Stay updated with advances in laboratory technology and diagnostic techniques.
  • Participate in academic presentations, journal clubs, and CME activities.

Key Skills and Competencies:

Technical/Clinical Skills:

  • Proficiency in biochemical test methodologies (autoanalyzers, POCT, spectrophotometry, immunoassays, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of clinical biochemistry and its relevance to patient care.
  • Understanding of laboratory automation, LIS (Laboratory Information System), and EMR.
  • Familiarity with quality control, assurance programs, and lab accreditation standards (NABL, CAP, etc.).
  • Ability to troubleshoot lab instruments and assay-related issues.

Academic and Research Skills:

  • Ability to conduct academic teaching for MBBS and paramedical students.
  • Basic skills in medical research, statistics, and data interpretation.
  • Preparation of SOPs and academic publications.

Soft Skills:

  • Good communication skills for interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Teamwork and leadership skills to guide lab technicians and junior staff.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment.
