Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical & Procedural Work
- Perform or assist in interventional procedures, such as:
- Vascular Interventions: Angioplasty, embolization, stenting, IVC filter placement
- Non-Vascular Interventions: Biopsies, drainages, ablations, nephrostomies, biliary procedures
- Neuro Interventions (if trained): Stroke thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling, AVM management
- Conduct pre-procedure clinical assessments and consent.
- Monitor patients intra- and post-procedure for complications.
- Interpret imaging studies (CT, MRI, DSA) relevant to interventional planning.
2. Imaging & Equipment Use
- Use high-end imaging modalities (CT fluoroscopy, DSA, ultrasound, cone-beam CT) for guidance.
- Ensure proper maintenance and sterilization of all interventional tools and work areas.
- Coordinate with PACS and RIS systems for image review and reporting.
3. Inpatient & Emergency Care
- Attend inpatient referrals for interventional procedures.
- Participate in emergency call duties for trauma, acute bleeding, stroke, etc.
- Collaborate with clinical teams (oncology, surgery, nephrology, gastroenterology, ICU) to provide timely interventional solutions.
4. Academic & Teaching (For Teaching Institutions)
- Participate in teaching rounds, seminars, case discussions, and training of junior residents and radiology students.
- Present cases in tumor boards or interdisciplinary meetings.
- Contribute to academic writing, presentations, and clinical research projects.
5. Documentation & Compliance
- Document procedure details, consent forms, complication logs, and post-procedure follow-ups.
- Adhere to hospital infection control, radiation safety, and clinical governance protocols.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
For Senior Resident:
- MD / DNB in Radiodiagnosis from a recognized institution.
- Interest and exposure in interventional radiology procedures.
- Registered with NMC/State Medical Council.
For Attending / Associate Consultant:
- MD / DNB in Radiology with 35+ years post-PG experience.
- Fellowship or certified training in Interventional Radiology (e.g., FIVR, IRI, VIR Fellowship, or equivalent).
- Independent experience in a range of interventional procedures preferred.
