Company Description Bambrew is a materials innovation company focused on replacing single-use plastics with advanced, bio-based alternatives across e-commerce, food, retail, and logistics. The team engineers renewable and compostable materials that are designed to perform at scale and integrate seamlessly into existing packaging systems. Bambrew partners with brands that want their sustainability values to be visible in how they package and deliver products. By enabling an easy switch to better materials, Bambrew helps organizations make more responsible choices without compromising quality or efficiency. The company is driven by the belief that better materials lead to a better tomorrow.
Role Description As a Senior Research Scientist – Biopolymers, you will lead research and development of novel bio-based materials and packaging solutions that can effectively replace single-use plastics. In this full-time, on-site role based in Bengaluru, you will design and conduct experiments, characterize material properties, optimize formulations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to move concepts from lab to pilot and commercial scale. You will evaluate performance, durability, compostability, and safety of biopolymer-based products, and document findings in technical reports and research publications. The role also involves mentoring junior scientists, maintaining laboratory best practices, and engaging with external partners, suppliers, and academic collaborators to stay current with emerging technologies and standards in sustainable materials.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in biopolymers, polymer science, materials science, or chemical engineering, with a strong understanding of biodegradable and compostable materials.
- Hands-on experience with material characterization techniques (e.g., mechanical testing, thermal analysis, rheology) and formulation optimization for performance packaging applications.
- Proficiency in experimental design, statistical analysis, and translating research data into actionable insights for product development.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in R&D, manufacturing, quality, and sustainability, and to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Track record of leading R&D projects from concept to implementation, including documentation, reporting, and presenting results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards, safety requirements, and certification processes related to compostable and food-contact materials.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology) and several years of industry or applied research experience.
- Strong problem-solving mindset, curiosity about sustainable technologies, and commitment to advancing environmentally responsible packaging solutions.
