Job Description

Job Description

In this role, the Reliability Engineer is responsible for assessing the Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) of products and systems using engineering and statistical analysis techniques.

The engineer will support cross‑functional, multi‑geography teams in conducting structured risk assessments, including Design FMEA (DFMEA), Technology Maturity Assessments, and Hazard Analyses.

Outputs from these assessments and reliability analyses will be used to develop and execute qualification strategies for new products, including Accelerated Life Testing (ALT). The role also includes applying Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles to optimize maintenance strategies and improve the performance of Oceaneering's internal assets.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze product designs and system architectures by reviewing engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical documentation; collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to understand system functionality, interfaces, and potential failure mechanisms.
  • Lead and/or co‑facilitate Technology Maturity Assessment workshops, evaluating Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and identifying key Technical Risk Categories (TRCs) to support informed design and investment decisions.
  • Lead and/or co‑facilitate Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) workshops with cross‑functional stakeholders to systematically identify failure modes, assess risks, and recommend mitigation actions early in the product lifecycle.
  • Identify, validate, and analyze component failure data using multiple sources, including field performance data, historical records, supplier information, and reliability databases, to ensure accuracy and relevance of analyses.
  • Apply advanced reliability modeling and assessment techniques, such as Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Load–Strength Interference, and related probabilistic methods to predict and quantify product and system reliability.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise for reliability demonstration testing, supporting test planning, execution, monitoring, and detailed analysis of results to verify reliability targets and design assumptions.
  • Develop and execute Accelerated Life Test (ALT) plans, including test rationale, stress models, and success criteria, and perform statistical analysis of test data to estimate life characteristics and reliability growth.
  • Apply Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles for identification of bad actors, cost benefit analysis and optimization of maintenance strategies for internal assets.
  • Review and technically validate reliability analyses performed by team members, ensuring methodological correctness, consistency with standards, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Analyze field failure and warranty data to continuously update FMECA, Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) models, and to track and demonstrate reliability improvement over time.
  • Stay current with industry trends, standards, and emerging methodologies in reliability engineering, risk analysis, and statistical modeling to enhance team capability and drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to travel as required to support business needs, customer engagements, testing activities, and cross‑site collaboration.
  • Work toward individual performance goals that are aligned with departmental objectives and broader organizational strategy, contributing to overall business success.
  • Adhere to organizational HR policies, procedures, and ethical standards, maintaining professionalism and accountability in all work activities.

Qualifications

  • Post Graduation (Master degree) in Mechanical Engineering or Reliability Engineering with minimum three years of relevant industry experience, OR
  • Graduation (Bachelor degree) in Mechanical Engineering with minimum six years of relevant industry experience
  • Should have experience working on failure modes of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Should have strong understanding of statistical distributions (like Weibull, Exponential, Normal, Poisson etc.)
  • Should have thorough understanding of reliability assessment tools and techniques
  • Should have a good understanding of RCM fundamentals
  • Should be familiar with ISO/IEC/API/SAE Qualification Test Standards
  • Should have excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of commercial reliability assessment software packages (like ReliaSoft, Palisade Decision Tools Suite etc.) would be highly beneficial
  • Prior experience of handling FMECA and TMA workshops would be beneficial
