SENIOR REAL ESTATE ACCOUNTANT – CRE ACCOUNTING / FUND & DEVELOPMENT FINANCE

We are currently hiring a Senior Real Estate Accountant with 5–8 years of experience to support a leading U.S.-based private equity firm specializing in commercial real estate (CRE) private credit and development investments. This role offers strong exposure to end-to-end real estate accounting, fund reporting, and development finance operations across institutional-grade portfolios.
As a Senior Real Estate Accountant, you will serve as an embedded partner working closely with asset management, project management, fund finance, and external stakeholders. You will not just manage accounting processes — you will contribute to financial accuracy, compliance, and strategic reporting across the real estate investment lifecycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Portfolio & Property Accounting
• You will oversee full-cycle accounting for a diversified portfolio including multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, and development properties, ensuring accurate handling of AP/AR, general ledger activities, and financial reporting.
• You will prepare monthly financial statements and reporting packages for investment partners and lenders, ensuring data accuracy and adherence to reporting timelines.
• You will perform bank reconciliations, accrual accounting, and budget-to-actual variance analysis, collaborating with Asset and Property Managers to explain key financial movements.
Transaction & Development Accounting
• You will manage closing schedules for acquisitions, financings, and dispositions, recording transactions accurately and coordinating with stakeholders for seamless execution.
• You will track and manage collateral accounts, reserve balances, and lender drawdowns, ensuring proper accounting treatment and compliance.
• You will maintain comprehensive project-level documentation, including contracts, insurance certificates, change orders, and supporting financial records.
• You will review and process subcontractor AIA payment applications (G702/G703), validating accuracy, completeness, and adherence to contractual terms.
• You will collaborate closely with Project Managers and subcontractors to ensure accurate accounting for purchase orders, change orders, and construction-related expenditures.
Reporting, Compliance & Audit
• You will prepare quarterly and annual GAAP-compliant financial statements, along with detailed supporting schedules.
• You will oversee property tax calculations, CAM reconciliations, and tenant billing processes, ensuring accuracy and timely execution.
• You will lead coordination of tax certiorari and RPIE filings in collaboration with attorneys, consultants, and CPA firms.
• You will review general ledger work papers for CPA submission and support annual tax filings and audit engagements.
• You will contribute to internal and external audit processes, ensuring compliance, documentation accuracy, and audit readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• 5–8 years of experience in real estate accounting, development accounting, or CRE finance operations
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA, CFA, or advanced certifications are a plus
• Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and real estate financial reporting
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
• Experience with Yardi or similar real estate accounting systems preferred
• Hands-on experience with construction accounting, AIA billing, and project finance tracking
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment with high accuracy
