Senior Quality Test Engineer I

Summary

The Senior Quality Test Engineer I contributes to the development and execution of quality-driven, automation-first testing solutions, leveraging foundational AI-assisted testing capabilities.

This role emphasizes building a strong quality mindset, understanding risk-based testing, and supporting delivery teams in achieving reliable, high-quality releases.

Working closely with senior engineers, this role focuses on: Learning what to test and why, not just how, applying automation and AI tools to improve efficiency, and contributing to scalable and maintainable testing practices

The engineer plays a key role in transitioning from manual-heavy testing to intelligent, automation-assisted quality engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Excellence

• Contribute to quality assurance and automation-first testing practices for assigned components.
• Develop and maintain: Test cases, Automated test scripts (UI/API), Basic performance tests
• Use AI tools to: Generate test scenarios, Assist in writing test scripts and Improve productivity in test design
• Learn to validate and refine AI-generated outputs.
• Apply risk-based thinking to prioritize testing efforts.
• Support maintenance and enhancement of test frameworks and automation suites.
• Participate in technical discussions and contribute ideas for improving test coverage and efficiency.
  
  

Operational Excellence

• Execute automated and exploratory tests with a focus on quality outcomes, not just completion.
• Support regression cycles using: Automation, AI-assisted test generation where applicable.
• Review logs, monitoring data, and alerts to assist in issue identification and analysis.
• Document defects clearly with context, impact, and reproducibility.
• Assist in root cause analysis, learning to identify underlying issues.
• Collaborate with developers to improve: Testability, Early defect detection (shift-left).
• Provide feedback on: Test coverage gaps, Risk areas before release.
  
  

Product Delivery & Business Impact

• Contribute to risk-based test planning aligned with feature requirements.
• Work with Product and Engineering teams to: Clarify requirements, Ensure they are testable and complete.
• Use AI tools to support: Test case generation, Test data preparation, Regression optimization.
• Follow and contribute to standard automation and testing practices across teams.
• Begin identifying what should be automated vs manually validated, based on guidance.
• Ensure test scenarios cover: Functional requirements, Key edge cases, Basic user workflows.
• Participate in improving overall product quality and testing efficiency.
  
  

Leadership & Collaboration

• Take ownership of assigned testing tasks and ensure quality deliverables.
• Demonstrate a growing quality mindset by questioning requirements and identifying gaps.
• Collaborate effectively with team members across QA, development, and product.
• Share learnings in: Automation, AI tools, Testing practices.
• Surface risks, blockers, and concerns early.
• Communicate progress, issues, and test outcomes clearly.
• Seek continuous improvement through learning and adoption of AI-driven practices.
  
  

Qualifications & Experience

• Typically 6+ years QA with automation & performance testing skills, strong QA methodology understanding.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of: QA fundamentals, Software development lifecycle.
• Demonstrated quality mindset with attention to detail and curiosity.
• Hands-on experience with test automation (intermediate level).
• Experience in using AI tools for testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and collaboration abilities.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to evolving AI-enabled QA practices.
  
  

Skills

• Developing competency in test automation tools: Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Maestro (LMA only)
• Understanding of: API testing, CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted tools for development/testing: Copilot, ChatGPT (or similar).
• Ability to: Write and execute automated tests, Review AI-generated test scenarios with guidance.
• Knowledge of: REST APIs, SQL/data validation.
• Proficiency in: Logging, monitoring, and debugging, Performance and Security testing concepts Cloud fundamentals (AWS or similar) is a plus.
