Cross-Functional Quality Engineer / Senior Quality Engineer
Role Purpose
Support the QA Lead in driving quality across the engineering organization by working closely with engineering teams to implement quality standards, improve automation, and ensure high-quality software delivery.
Act as the primary operational quality advocate for engineering teams in Chennai, providing day-to-day technical leadership while escalating strategic risks, trends, and improvement opportunities to the QA Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Delivery
- Support engineering teams in delivering high-quality software through effective testing, automation, and quality engineering practices.
- Execute quality initiatives, standards, and engineering practices defined by the QA Lead.
- Review release readiness against agreed quality standards and provide recommendations on quality risks.
- Identify quality gaps early and ensure appropriate mitigation before production releases.
Engineering Team Support
- Act as the primary quality contact for engineering teams within the Chennai office.
- Provide day-to-day guidance on quality engineering, automation, and testing best practices.
- Mentor QA Engineers and SDETs to continuously improve technical capability.
- Build strong relationships with engineering teams while fostering a collaborative quality-first culture.
- Work as an integrated member of engineering teams, promoting quality as a shared responsibility throughout design, development, testing, and release.
- Encourage developers, QA Engineers, and SDETs to collaborate on building quality into software rather than relying solely on downstream testing.
- Escalate recurring issues, delivery risks, and improvement opportunities to the QA Lead.
Automation & Technical Leadership
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites across UI, API, and integration testing.
- Improve and extend existing automation frameworks.
- Contribute to CI/CD quality gates and automated release validation.
- Support AI-assisted testing and quality tooling initiatives.
- Assist in evaluating and adopting new testing tools and engineering practices.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering quality, automation effectiveness, and testing efficiency.
- Reduce manual effort through automation and process improvements.
- Capture feedback from engineering teams to shape future quality improvements.
- Contribute ideas that improve engineering productivity and software quality.
Operational Leadership
- Provide regular updates to the QA Lead on team health, quality risks, automation progress, and delivery challenges.
- Support cross-team coordination on quality initiatives and release activities.
- Ensure quality standards are consistently applied across engineering teams.
- Act as an escalation point for day-to-day quality issues within supported teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong background in Software Quality Engineering and Test Automation.
- Hands-on experience with modern automation frameworks, API testing, and UI automation.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and release validation.
- Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to mentor engineers and positively influence engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a passion for continuous improvement.
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering or AI-driven testing tools is an added advantage.
- Hands-on mindset with the ability to build automation, improve frameworks, and solve technical quality challenges.
