We are looking for Senior Project & Design Lead Engineer – Underfloor (Locomotive and Cab Cars)

You'll make a difference by

  • As a Project & Design Lead Engineer, you will take on project responsibility in Engineering in the Carbody department for the technical aspects of technology, quality and costs for the concept development and integration of components into the Underfloor in Locomotives.
  • You will ensure an efficient interface & alignment with internal / external stakeholders such as other Engineering functions, Procurement, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Project management, suppliers & subcontractors for assigned project / Tender.
  • You will coordinate technical concepts with various interface partners and take over the technical management of national and international project teams. In doing so, you will ensure smooth cooperation across national borders and coordinate closely with all trades (e.g. circuit technology, control technology, cable laying, shell construction), suppliers and component managers to ensure proper design and integration of assemblies in the respective projects.
  • You must analyze and evaluate the customer specifications, standards, and regulations, always consider the current process regulations, technical instructions, information as well as standards and laws. Having working exposure of rail norms as per UIC, EN, DIN, IS is a plus.
  • You must understand standard engineering practices (example: material selection, Tolerance stack up, Location strategy, manufacturing, serviceability, assembly, LCC, testability, DFMEA).
  • Must have working knowledge of design to meet defined requirements of weight, cost and functionality.
  • In addition, you will initiate patent applications for innovative solutions, but you will also fall back on proven technical standard concepts, considering the current process regulations, technical instructions and information as well as standards and laws
  • You must evaluate technical offers from suppliers (Clause-by-clause reply).
  • Through first article inspections and tests, you check whether the technical and normative requirements for the components for the respective projects are met. You will also be preparing and following up the Test Program Plan and verifying the proposed test procedures.
  • You must support/verify Maintenance and Operating Manuals.
  • You must prepare requirements specifications, plan the arrangement in the underfloor area, clarify technical details and prepare and check installation documents for underfloor installations.
  • You are entrusted to drive the product development, integrate with other sub systems, and validate the system performance as per the functional requirements adhering to the Quality, Cost & Delivery (QCD) commitments of the Project/Tender.
  • You will establish and provide standardized reports on product/project execution to line & project management and must be able to work in a Matrix Organization.

Desired Skills

  • Must have a Master's degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical, Mechatronics Engineering or similar with 8-12 years of similar work experience. Rolling Stock and Equipment integration and fittings background preferred.
  • Must have experience in coordinating technical tasks as well as in the technical management of project teams at various international locations. Experience in international cooperation is an advantage.
  • Must have a good understanding of mechanical designing concepts and design of machine members, design of welded, rivetted and/or bolted assemblies, gluing and surface treatments. Awareness of Metal Fatigue, Welded Steel Structures design as per EN 15085, material behavior, mechanical vibrations etc. Know-how of pre-dimensioning of screw and rivet connections is beneficial.
  • Sound knowledge of PTC CREO 4.0 modules such as sheet metal, piping, cabling, assembly, drafting and / or surfacing as well as PDM Windchill or similar Product Lifecycle Management software (PLM).
  • Handling of SAP (P22) and Teamcenter for creation & release of BOM, drawing, technical specification & change management.
  • Experience with Requirement management tools such as Polarion, Doors etc is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical & Electrical integration of sub-systems, designing Sheet metal, FRP, Castings & Extrusions parts & components is required.
  • Must have knowledge about corrosion protection methodologies such as Paint, Powder Coat, anodizing, zinc plating etc.
  • Must have experience in communicating with suppliers and customers, internally and externally.
  • Experience in creating and presenting designs for internal and external design reviews is necessary.
  • Advanced English skills, German skills on level A1 or higher is a welcome addition. Your willingness to travel domestically and abroad round off your profile.
