Job Description

Senior Product Manager – Mutual Funds

AssetPlus • Chennai, India

MutualFunds Pod • Full-Time

About the Role

AssetPlus is reimagining how mutual fund distribution works in India — and this role sits at the centre of that ambition. Today, AssetPlus powers more than 20,000 empanelled distribution partners and over 1.5 lakh investors with more than Rs 8,000 Cr AUM — and we are just getting started. India is on a trajectory towards 100 million mutual fund investors, a generation of first-time, investment-ready individuals who will need trusted distribution infrastructure to guide them. AssetPlus aims to grow to be that infrastructure — and the Senior Product Manager for MutualFunds will be building the platform that gets us there. The SPM will own the MutualFunds pod backlog and drive iterative delivery — but the bigger charter is to shape what comes next. This means defining futuristic investor journeys, partnering with design and engineering to push the boundaries of simplicity, and integrating AI-led capabilities that make distribution genuinely easier for the partner. The SPM will be a product visionary as much as an executor — someone who asks not just what does the platform do today but what should it feel like three years from now

Key Responsibilities:

Investor & Distributor Understanding

  • Develop a deep understanding of investor and distributor workflows, pain points, and usage patterns across the mutual fund lifecycle.
  • Represent the customers needs — both retail investors and distribution partners — during product discussions and decision-making.
  • Lead user interviews, usability sessions, and frontline team conversations to stay grounded in real-world experience.

Backlog Ownership & Execution

  • Maintain a clear, outcome-aligned backlog for the MutualFunds pod, ensuring each item is well-defined, technically feasible, and tied to a specific investor or business problem.
  • Translate investor needs, distributor feedback, regulatory requirements, and data insights into user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain forward-looking backlog readiness by ensuring at least three sprints of well- groomed, prioritised work are consistently prepared, enabling the team to plan ahead without interruption.
  • Make day-to-day decisions that unblock engineering and maintain delivery velocity.
  • Ensure the team always understands the why behind priorities and how work contributes to investor experience quality and operational efficiency.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews with precision and preparation.
  • Ensure shipped features meet acceptance criteria, quality standards, and intended use cases.
  • Partner closely with engineering and UX to deliver incremental improvements rather than large, risky releases.

Experimentation & Analytics

  • Monitor released features, track key performance indicators (AUM growth, transaction success rate, drop-off funnel, SIP activations), and drive corrective actions when results fall short.
  • Use product analytics, behavioural data, and qualitative input to understand how investors and distributors experience mutual fund workflows, and identify where friction or confusion occurs.
  • Opportunity to work on industry-leading AI initiatives — including AI Client Assist and other AI-led tools built to empower mutual fund distribution partners — shaping how intelligent features are defined, prioritised, and delivered.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with business stakeholders, engineering, design, data, compliance, and support teams to ensure strong alignment and smooth execution.
  • Partner with the Product Head to ensure the roadmap, vision, and pod-level priorities remain tightly connected to AssetPlus's overall goals.
  • Collaborate with operations and compliance enablement teams to support regulatory updates and rollout of new mutual fund transaction capabilities.

Requirements:

Education

  • BTech degree required; technical, business, finance, or quantitative fields preferred.
  • MBA or CFA (or progress towards) is a plus.

Experience

  • 6–8 years of total work experience in fintech, wealthtech, B2B2C investing platforms, or SaaS.
  • 3–5 years as a Product Manager or Senior Product Manager, ideally owning a consumer-facing investment or financial services product.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Experience with mutual fund distribution, AMC integrations, AMFI/BSE StarMF platforms, or RTA connectivity is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with KYC/KRA flows, SEBI regulations, and the Indian mutual fund ecosystem is highly desirable.

Skills

  • Strong backlog management and sprint execution skills; deeply familiar with Agile/Scrum team operations.
  • Proven ability to articulate investor and distributor problems, define user stories, and translate requirements into actionable work.
  • Analytical thinker who uses data to justify priorities and evaluate the impact of shipped features.
  • Clear communicator with the discipline to document decisions, acceptance criteria, and changes precisely.
  • Technical curiosity and the ability to understand system behaviour, API constraints, and trade-offs without needing to code.
  • Strong attention to detail and a habit of ensuring features meet expected outcomes — not just delivery dates.
