Overview
Job Title: Senior Product Manager
About The Team
We are the growth engine for Microsoft 365 responsible for converting free users to paying subscribers across iOS, Android, iPad, and Mac, and for keeping those subscribers once we earn them. Our work touches hundreds of millions of users. We run experiments on a scale, own the paywall infrastructure, and drive the monetization initiatives that generate billions in annual subscriber revenue.
We are not a features team. We are a growth team obsessed with the funnel, grounded in telemetry, and directly accountable to a subscriber number. Every PM on this team owns a metric, runs experiments to move it, and ships at the pace the market demands. If you want to understand consumer monetization from the inside paywall economics, App Store billing constraints, trial conversion, churn patterns, platform architecture, this is the seat.
What You Will Own
Retention & Subscriber Lifecycle
- You own the End-of-Period (EOP) retention number; defining strategy, building the experiment backlog, and shipping the in-product experiences that save subscribers: save flows, cancellation interventions, payment dunning, auto-renew recovery, and win-back mechanics.
- You read cohort data, find exactly where subscribers are falling off, and build the next hypothesis from that signal. You design for incrementality, not proxy metrics, not activity and you partner with data science to make sure the scorecard reflects real impact.
- You define the subscriber lifecycle end-to-end: from the moment a trial starts to the moment a subscriber renews for the fifth time. You identify drop-offs, build interventions, and ship them.
Cross-Platform Monetization
- You drive product workstreams that span engineering, finance, legal, and App Store platforms (Apple IAP, Google Play). These are not simple executions, they involve platform billing constraints, Finance reconciliation requirements, and cross-org dependencies that demand both technical fluency and structured alignment.
- You translate ambiguous, multi-stakeholder requirements, commerce policy, compliance mandates, pricing logic, platform rules, clean product specs that engineers can ship. You are the person who makes complex problems look simple on a slide and manageable in a backlog.
- You keep executive stakeholders informed, not surprised. You escalate early, propose solutions, and close the loop.
Strategy & Experimentation
- You define your OKRs, own your scorecard, and present progress to senior leadership with clarity and conviction no handholding required.
- You use telemetry and experiment results to prioritize, not intuition, not consensus. You know what statistical significance means in practice and you know when to ship at 10% versus 100%.
- You move fast. You ship. You measure. You iterate. You do not wait for perfect information before forming a point of view.
You will thrive here if
- You have shipped consumer-facing growth products on a scale, and you have strong opinions about what good conversion, retention, and paywall design look like backed by data from products you personally shipped.
- You are deeply comfortable with funnel data. You can read a scorecard, identify the right metric to move, tell the difference between a signal and noise, and know when an experiment needs more time versus when it's done.
- You have worked with subscription or monetization products. You understand trial mechanics, churn economics, LTV trade-offs, and why a 1-month free trial is not the same as a 7-day free trial.
- You have navigated platform billing systems, Apple IAP, Google Play, or enterprise commerce flows. You understand the constraints, not just the concepts. You know what a 30% platform commission means for unit economics and how to design around it.
- You write clearly, communicate without being managed, and influence decisions across engineering, finance, legal, and design without needing formal authority. People trust your read on the problem.
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
- You will own product strategy for subscriber growth and retention across the subscription lifecycle; the Trial to Paid and Paid to Paid stages of the funnel, alongside complex cross-platform monetization initiatives that require navigating platform billing systems, Finance constraints, and multi-org dependencies.
- This is one of the highest-leverage PM roles in the org. A 1% improvement in trial-to-paid conversion translates directly to tens of thousands of net new subscribers annually.
- You will also drive initiatives, like in-app upgrade/downgrade flows and web-based checkout, where the revenue impact is measured in tens of millions of dollars over a product cycle.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development.
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of product management experience shipping consumer-facing products at scale.
- Demonstrated end-to-end product delivery across complex, cross-functional workstreams with engineering, finance, legal, and platform partners.
- Solid command of funnel metrics, cohort analysis, and multivariate A/B experiment design and interpretation.
- Experience translating ambiguous business or compliance requirements into shippable product specs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; proven ability to influence senior stakeholders without formal authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in subscription growth, consumer monetization, or mobile commerce.
- Familiarity with App Store or Play Store billing — IAP rules, subscription groups, upgrade/downgrade flows, or external payment link policies.
- Track record of defining and measuring growth and retention strategy through controlled experimentation at scale.
- Experience working on or adjacent to paywall design, plan-chooser UX, or CPC-style subscription infrastructure.
- B.E. / B. Tech in Computer Science or a related field; MBA a plus.
