About The Company
Founders today are building global companies from day one but the systems that manage their money were built for a different era. Aspire exists to change that!
We're building the financial operating system for global founders, bringing banking, software, and automation into a single platform so businesses can move faster across borders and stay focused on building.
Aspire is built by people who think from first principles, care deeply about solving hard problems, and take real ownership of their work. Our team brings global experience from leading fintech and technology companies, and many of us are former founders and operators who understand what it takes to build thoughtfully, make trade-offs, and deliver at scale in a global environment.
Backed by leading global investors including Y Combinator, Peak XV, and Lightspeed, Aspire has been trusted by more than 50,000 startups and growing businesses worldwide to manage their finances since 2018. Together with partners like J.P. Morgan, Visa, and Wise, we're building for the next generation of global companies.
Senior Product Manager - API Infrastructure (Payments)
About The Team
At Aspire, we believe that building exceptional products starts with deeply understanding our customers. Our Product Team is the voice of the customer within the company relentlessly curious, data-informed, and impact-driven. We lead with research, insights, and empathy to define the right problems to solve, and work cross-functionally to craft solutions that create real value for our users and their businesses. At the same time, we stay laser-focused on maximizing impact for Aspire, ensuring our products contribute meaningfully to growth, scalability, and long-term success. As a fintech, we also design with trust at the core embedding risk management, security, and regulatory compliance into every stage of the product lifecycle.
About The Role
- We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to own our Payments API platform and underlying API infrastructure, which powers all payment experiences across our enterprise and institutional clients. This role is responsible for defining, scaling, and operating a reliable, developer-friendly, and compliant payments platform that enables fast product iteration across markets and use cases.
- You will work closely with Engineering, Compliance, Risk, and Operations to abstract complex payment rails and regulatory requirements into clean, reusable APIs.
- Own the Payments API roadmap: Define and drive the roadmap for core payments APIs and shared infrastructure supporting pay-ins, payouts, transfers, and transaction lifecycle management.
- End-to-end API ownership: Design APIs across initiation, processing, settlement, reconciliation, errors, retries, and reversals with consistency and predictability.
- Developer experience (DX): Partner with Engineering and Design to deliver intuitive APIs, clear documentation, SDKs, webhooks, and error handling standards.
- Translate complexity into platforms: Convert banking, partner, and regulatory constraints into scalable platform primitives and workflows.
- Platform metrics & reliability: Define and track KPIs such as API uptime, latency, error rates, payment success rates, and SLA adherence.
- Compliance & security by design: Ensure APIs meet regulatory, audit, and security requirements across markets while remaining easy to integrate.
- Continuous improvement: Identify integration friction, drive platform enhancements, and lead API versioning and deprecations with minimal disruption.
- Product discovery: Validate new API capabilities with internal teams and key customers before launch.
Minimum Qualifications
- 68 years of experience in product management or platform roles within payments, FinTech, or financial services.
- Strong understanding of payments infrastructure and APIs, including transaction orchestration, settlement models, and failure handling.
- Proven experience building or scaling API-first or developer platforms.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Compliance, Risk, and Operations in regulated environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and product specification skills.
- Solid understanding of AI concepts and experience applying AI tools to monitoring, anomaly detection, risk signals, or operational automation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep payments systems expertise: Strong understanding of payment rails and schemes across markets, including real-time payments, batch clearing, card networks, and international transfers, with hands-on experience handling settlement, reconciliation, and failure modes.
- Technically fluent platform PM: Proven experience working on API-first, distributed systems, including RESTful API design, webhooks, idempotency, async processing, and event-driven architectures.
- Infrastructure-scale mindset: Experience partnering with engineering teams on high-availability, high-throughput financial platforms, with a strong grasp of reliability, resiliency, observability, and incident management.
- Compliance-aware by design: Practical experience embedding regulatory, audit, and risk controls directly into platform and API design, rather than treating them as downstream concerns.
