The Impact You'll Make in this Role
The person hired for this position will join the India PSD lab. The ideal candidate will Identify new materials/product technologies, provide technical leadership to drive effective material selection, product design, development and commercialization. The person will also help drive continuous quality improvements, implement customer identified improvements and performance updates, and support or lead cost down or other strategic programs through material or process changes.

As an Senior Product Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most creative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Research and adapt new technologies suitable for creating new products for markets and customers.
  • Lead the selection of product materials and specifications and develop product design specs as well as initial customer specs.
  • Create and approving initial raw material specifications
  • Drive NPI/CMR execution through strategic implementation of first article inspection techniques leveraging existing and new technologies in alignment with the Global Lab.
  • Defining new standard and quality metrics and materials, aligning to disruptive manufacturing value stream initiatives.
  • Support product penetration through comparative system performance analysis, data package preparation, product or system recommendations and sample preparation.
  • Support global launch of newly developed products
  • Expert in raw material characterization and failure analysis investigation - strong leadership and agile mindset in coordination internally and externally.
  • Should have knowledge of local regulatory requirements and be able to guide on the implementation and compliance of such requirements.
  • Should have good knowledge of Quality testing and approval processes

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Possess a master's degree or higher in Chemical engineering, Chemistry or Material science from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of Seven (7) years of combined product engineering, product development and/or research experience
  • Non-wovens, molding and/or materials science expertise

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience with research on analytical techniques.
  • Experience with regulated products.
  • Experience leading or being a senior team member on a new product commercialization team
  • Experience working with regional and global teams
  • Project Management skills with the ability to develop and drive timelines
  • Strong communicator with the ability to contribute and work with a cross-functional team
  • Maintaining design control for assigned product lines. Leading or participating in local and global management of change projects, including the communication, risk evaluation and execution of process and product changes of these projects.
  • Working with cross functional team to review product metrics to proactively determine if new improvement projects need to be initiated.
  • Creating and maintaining product documentation, including product specifications and test methods.
