Procurement Lead – PEB & Modular Construction

Location: Chennai (IITM Research Park) | Experience: 10+ Years | Type: Full-Time, Onsite

Role Overview

We are looking for a strategic and execution-focused Procurement Lead to own the end-to-end procurement of high-value construction materials — steel, aluminium, and processed components — for our PEB and modular construction projects. You will drive procurement strategy, supplier negotiations, commodities hedging, credit financing, and ERP integration, ensuring seamless material supply that keeps projects on schedule and on budget. This is a high-accountability leadership role with direct impact on project profitability and supply chain resilience.

Role in the Team

  • Report directly to the CTO / Head of Operations and work in close collaboration with the design, engineering, finance, and site execution teams.
  • Serve as the single point of accountability for all procurement activities — from vendor onboarding and purchase orders through to material delivery and cost reconciliation.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing procurement team, setting standards for vendor management, financial discipline, and ERP adoption.
  • Act as the primary interface between procurement and the design/BIM team — ensuring material specifications from BOMs and BOQs are accurately translated into procurement plans.
  • Partner with the finance team on credit financing structures, budget alignment, and commodities risk management.
  • Drive ERP system development and adoption across procurement, finance, and project management to ensure real-time visibility into material flows and costs.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute procurement plans for high-value commodities — steel, aluminium, and processed materials — ensuring timely delivery within project budgets.
  • Lead supplier negotiations to secure favourable terms on pricing, quality, delivery schedules, and credit financing.
  • Oversee procurement across large-scale PEB and modular projects, ensuring cost-efficiency, compliance, and zero supply gaps.

Commodities Hedging & Financial Management

  • Design and implement hedging strategies to manage commodity price volatility and ensure cost stability across project cycles.
  • Manage procurement budgets, cost analysis, and credit risk in close coordination with the finance team, ensuring alignment with company financial goals.
  • Track Budget vs Actual (BvA) on material costs and implement corrective actions to protect project margins.

Vendor & Credit Management

  • Build and maintain a robust, scalable vendor database — evaluating suppliers on quality, reliability, financial stability, and delivery performance.
  • Secure favourable credit terms with key suppliers to optimise project cash flows and working capital.
  • Onboard new vendors, manage credit portfolios, and ensure supplier performance is continuously monitored and improved.

ERP & Supply Chain Optimisation

  • Lead the development, integration, and adoption of an ERP system covering procurement, finance, and project management workflows.
  • Ensure accurate real-time tracking of materials, costs, and supplier performance across all active projects.
  • Continuously improve supply chain efficiency — identifying risks early, applying best practices, and aligning procurement with project execution timelines.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering; MBA in Supply Chain Management or Finance is strongly preferred.
  • Professional certifications in procurement or supply chain (CIPS, CSCP, or equivalent) are an added advantage.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in procurement, with a strong focus on construction materials — steel, aluminium, PEB components, and prefabricated systems.
  • Proven experience in commodities hedging, credit financing structures, and financial risk management within a construction or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of building and implementing ERP systems from scratch and driving adoption across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of B2B procurement marketplaces, vendor evaluation frameworks, and large-scale supply chain management.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel for cost modelling, BvA analysis, and procurement reporting; familiarity with ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle, Zoho, or equivalent).
  • Prior experience in PEB, modular, or prefabricated construction procurement is strongly preferred.

Leadership & Mindset

  • Strong leadership and team development skills — proven ability to build and manage high-performing procurement teams.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills — comfortable influencing at all levels from factory floor to C-suite.
  • Strategic thinker who can translate company financial goals into executable procurement plans.
  • High accountability, ownership mindset, and ability to make confident decisions under pressure with incomplete information.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, delivery-driven environments with overlapping project demands and dynamic supply conditions.
