Job Description

The PostgreSQL Database Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing large-scale PostgreSQL database environments that support high-volume, mission-critical applications. The role focuses on database reliability, performance, scalability, and high availability across on-premise and cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer PostgreSQL databases with strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture and internals
  • Perform and manage different types of database backups and restores to ensure data safety and recovery
  • Plan and execute minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades with minimal risk and downtime
  • Implement and manage database replication and point-in-time recovery solutions
  • Handle day-to-day database operations and troubleshoot performance issues including load average, locks, blocking sessions, and long-running SQL queries
  • Configure and tune commonly used PostgreSQL parameters and leverage system catalogs for monitoring and diagnostics
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as vacuuming, indexing, and capacity planning
  • Support PostgreSQL deployments on cloud platforms including AWS (RDS or EC2) and GCP
  • Implement and maintain high-availability solutions using tools such as Repmgr, pgpool, or EFM
  • Administer and optimize multi-terabyte databases supporting high transaction throughput
  • Contribute to the design and maintenance of large-scale database infrastructure for mission-critical environments

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database administration
  • Proven experience managing large, high-performance database environments
  • Exposure to cloud-based database deployments and high-availability architectures
  • Ability to independently learn and adapt to new database technologies and tools
