Position Title: Sr. Project Planning Engineer

Department: Project Planning / Project Management

Reports To: Planning Manager / Project Manager

Location: Chennai / Project Site(s)

Role Summary

The Project Planning Engineer is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules, resource plans, and progress tracking for Solar and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects. The role ensures timely project execution through baseline schedule creation, activity sequencing, resource allocation, monitoring site progress, identifying delays, and supporting project teams with updated project MIS and forecasts.

Key Responsibilities

Project Scheduling & Baseline Development

-Prepare project schedules using MS Project / Primavera aligned with scope, BOQ, drawings, and engineering deliverables.

-Develop baseline schedules with detailed sequencing for civil, electrical, mechanical, and BESS installation activities.

-Identify critical path activities and float management.

Project Monitoring & Progress Tracking

-Track daily/weekly progress against baseline and prepare variance reports.

-Update project schedules regularly with site progress, delays, and resource deployment.

-Coordinate with civil, electrical, QA/QC, and procurement teams to collect progress updates.

-Highlight slippages, risks, and bottlenecks to Planning Manager and Project Manager.

Material & Resource Planning

-Prepare material requirement schedules (MRS) based on construction sequence.

-Coordinate with procurement and stores teams to track material availability and delivery plans.

-Support in planning manpower, equipment, and subcontractor allocation.

Reporting & Documentation

-Prepare daily/weekly/monthly project progress reports (MIS).

-Maintain dashboards, S-curve, productivity charts, histograms, and look-ahead schedules.

-Support clients and internal review meetings with planning documents and reports.

-Maintain planning documentation including baseline approvals, revisions, logs, and change records.

Coordination & Interface Management

-Coordinate with engineering for drawing release plans (DRP) and deliverable schedules.

-Support interface planning between Solar EPC activities and BESS installation works.

-Work with QA/QC for inspection scheduling and with HSE for activity planning considering safety constraints.

-Coordinate with contractors for work-front planning and progress confirmation.

Risk, Delay & Change Management

-Identify risks related to material delays, design dependencies, approvals, or site constraints.

-Track changes in scope, design, or schedules and update plans accordingly.

-Support in preparing Extension of Time (EOT) justification with delay analysis.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Educational Qualification

-Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Civil/Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

-23 years of planning experience in Solar EPC / Industrial / Power / Infrastructure projects.

-Exposure to BESS project planning is preferred.

Technical Skills

-Proficiency in MS Project / Primavera.

-Understanding of Solar EPC construction sequence and BESS installation interfaces.

-Strong analytical and reporting skills.

-Knowledge of project management workflows, BOQ, drawings, and engineering documents.
