COWI's Heavy Civil team in India is rapidly growing and to support the growth we are looking for a Senior Public Health and Fire Fighting Engineer.


Your key responsibilities will :
 


•    Have strong experience in the design and delivery of major infrastructure projects, including road and highway tunnels, underground and elevated metro stations, stormwater pumping stations, wastewater pumping stations, water and wastewater infrastructure, and other heavy civil infrastructure projects.
•    Have extensive design experience in potable water distribution systems, drainage and sewer networks, stormwater management systems, fire hydrant systems, automatic sprinkler systems, fire water storage and pumping systems, and tunnel fire-fighting systems in accordance with international standards and project requirements.
•    Lead the design and review of tunnel firefighting systems, including hydrant, deluge, water mist, and foam systems, as well as metro/station firefighting and suppression systems.
•    Prepare and review hydraulic calculations, demand assessments, equipment sizing, design reports, technical specifications, drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements.
•    Deliver high-quality design outputs in line with project schedules and support tender preparation, including BOQs, specifications, technical compliance, bid evaluations, and vendor submissions.
•    Provide engineering support during construction, installation, and commissioning.
•    Coordinate with civil, structural, architectural, ventilation, electrical, SCADA, and BIM teams to deliver integrated, clash-free designs and manage interfaces between PHE/FF and ELV/SCADA systems.
•    Use AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic design tools such as PipeNet, Elite Fire, Sprinkcalc or equivalent, while ensuring compliance with NFPA, UL/FM, IEC/EN, BS/EN, DS/EN, local, and project-specific standards, including functional safety and SIL requirements where applicable.
•    Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, vendors, and other key project stakeholders. 
•    Ensure compliance with applicable international and local standards including ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, BS/EN, and project-specific infrastructure and tunnel requirements.

You have a Bachelors/Master's degree in Mechanical engineering and have more than 10 years of relevant experience preferably in Heavy Civil Infrastructure. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or eligibility for Chartered Engineer membership through a recognized professional institution is highly preferred.


On top of that, you will:


•    Lead, mentor and support junior engineers and designers, fostering technical development and knowledge sharing within the team.
•    Have proven leadership experience in global design delivery or international consulting environment.
•    Have demonstrated experience of working in multi-cultural and multi-national team environment. Working experience within North America, Scandinavian or UK markets would be advantageous.
•    Have demonstrated impeccable English communication skills – verbal and written.
•    Be self-driven and intrinsically motivated to make a positive difference for the team, COWI and self.
•    Manage Plumbing and Firefighting system interfaces across multidisciplinary infrastructure projects and resolve technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
•    Have experience to apply company QA/QC procedures and conduct thorough reviews of engineering deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, constructability, and reliability.
•    Have experience to support project planning, resource management, technical risk assessments, and proposal/ business development activities as required. 
•    Have working knowledge of sustainability and climate-resilient infrastructure design.
