Senior Performance Engineer

Role Overview

As a Product Technical Lead, you will own the end-to-end performance engineering strategy for enterprise-grade applications and platforms. This role demands strong technical leadership, hands-on expertise in performance testing and tuning, and collaboration across Product Owners, Architects, SRE, DevOps, and Delivery Teams to ensure performance-by-design and release readiness. You will leverage Infosys Global Delivery Model and best practices to deliver scalable, resilient, and cost-optimized solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Performance Strategy & Governance

• Define performance engineering roadmap, NFRs, and capacity planning aligned with Infosys delivery frameworks.
• Act as Performance SME during architecture reviews, release go/no-go decisions, and production RCA.
• Drive performance KPIs, SLIs/SLOs, and golden signals for critical services.

Performance Testing & Automation

• Design and execute load, stress, spike, endurance, and soak tests using Apache JMeter.
• Develop reusable test frameworks integrated with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle).
• Implement parameterization, correlation, custom samplers, and distributed load generation.

Application & JVM Optimization

• Hands-on tuning for Java/Spring Boot microservices deployed on Kubernetes/Docker.
• Expertise in JVM internals (GC algorithms, heap, thread scheduling) and tools like JFR, JMC, VisualVM.
• Analyze thread contention, GC pauses, memory leaks, CPU hotspots; recommend code-level optimizations.

Middleware & API Performance

• Optimize Tomcat, JBoss/WildFly for thread pools, connection pools, async processing.
• Govern RESTful API performance, OpenAPI contracts, and Apigee API Gateway policies for scalability and security.

Database Performance Engineering

• Tune Oracle/PostgreSQL queries, execution plans, indexing strategies, and connection pooling.
• Correlate DB metrics with application and infrastructure telemetry.

Cloud & Container Performance

• Drive Kubernetes resource sizing, pod scheduling, and JVM tuning inside containers.
• Debug using kubectl, logs, metrics; optimize deployments for VMware-based environments.

Observability & APM

• Implement Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger for full-stack observability.
• Build dashboards and alerts; perform transaction-level latency breakdowns.

Infosys Delivery Excellence

• Align with Infosys Agile/DevOps practices, Global Delivery Model, and quality gates.
• Partner with Product Owners, Architects, and Client Stakeholders for performance sign-off.

Advanced Skills

• eBPF/bpftrace for low-overhead tracing.
• AI/ML-driven anomaly detection and automated RCA.
• Custom dashboards using Streamlit or similar frameworks.
• Experience with FinTech/OLTP workloads and high-throughput systems.

Mandatory Skill - Performance Testing with Java programming language
