DBA Key Responsibilities
Position is expected to work on-site at Client Premises in a 24X7 shift. Candidate will have 10+ years of experience with Oracle Database with role as n DBA/Consultant/Data Base Support Engineer. Academic Qualifications with BE/BTech and/or MS in Computer Science or equivalent preferred.
1. Performance Engineering & Optimization (Core Focus)
- Lead advanced performance tuning using:
- AWR/ASH analysis
- SQL tracing
- Execution plan deep analysis
- Wait-event methodology
- SQL Monitor & Real-Time ADDM
- Diagnose systemic issues (I/O bottlenecks, latch contention, memory pressure, CPU saturation).
- Optimize:
- Indexing strategies
- Partitioning strategies
- Query rewrites
- PL/SQL optimization
- Connection pooling patterns
- Establish performance baselines for OLTP-heavy core banking workloads.
2. High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Architect and manage:
- Oracle RAC (multi-node clustering)
- Data Guard / Active Data Guard
- DR drills & failover simulations
- Own RPO/RTO alignment with banking regulatory requirements.
- Design backup & recovery frameworks (RMAN, incremental merge, backup validation).
- Ensure DR readiness with periodic validation and audit documentation.
3. Banking Domain Alignment
Leads client situations in crisis management, good executive communication and cross-functional leadership to Leadership Competencies, e.g. Lead crisis resolution for Sev1/Sev2 database incidents and delivers executive-ready RCA reports.
Aligns with cross-functional stakeholders (IT, business, audit) in large banking teams
Communicate complex database risk and strategy to C-suite executives and regulatory auditors.
- Support mission-critical systems such as:
- Core Banking (CBS)
- UPI / Payments / Switch systems
- Treasury systems
- Risk & Compliance platforms
- Data Warehouse & Regulatory reporting
- Ensure compliance with RBI/central bank guidelines and audit standards.
- Support high transaction throughput environments (large OLTP systems).
4. Security & Compliance
- Implement database hardening and security best practices:
- Role-based access control
- Privilege minimization
- Database Vault (if applicable)
- Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
- Data masking for non-prod environments
- Support audit requirements and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure encryption at rest and in transit (SSL/TLS, wallet management).
5. Automation & Operational Excellence
- Develop automation using:
- Shell / Python
- Ansible
- Infrastructure-as-Code principles
- Standardize patching, upgrade, and rollback frameworks.
- Enhance observability via OEM / custom monitoring.
- Improve MTTD/MTTR via structured incident response and RCA processes.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of enterprise Oracle database experience with 3+ years of preferred hands-on banking/financial services.
- Expert-level experience in:
- Oracle RAC
- Data Guard / Active Data Guard
- RMAN
- AWR/ASH performance diagnostics
- Partitioning & Advanced Compression
- OEM
- Strong experience in large OLTP workloads (high TPS environments).
- Experience handling multi-terabyte databases.
- Strong scripting/automation experience (Shell, Python, Ansible).
