Job Overview

• The Software Engineer Senior is a medium- to advanced-level software developer with the ability to lead a team of up to 4, giving work assignments while meeting delivery dates and quality standards to meet budgets, milestones, and deadlines for assigned projects. All primary responsibilities and skills are assumed at this level. The person in this role is expected to attain mastery of RSM's SDLC, knowing which SDLC activities and deliverables are required and scaling them to each project. They can resolve moderate to difficult problems, lead the resolution of those problems, and demonstrate expertise across a variety of technical concepts, practices, and procedures. The Software Engineer Senior works independently while making sound decisions that move projects forward effectively.
• This role ensures team members are coached through their assignments and show growth by the end of each project, and arranges mentoring by other team members while taking ownership of skill growth for their project team and other projects. The Software Engineer Senior escalates issues to the Director/Manager of App Dev in a timely manner to prevent project delays, and takes ownership of estimating development effort for projects. The incumbent fosters a team environment where all members are included in the solution and leadership stays informed of all actions being taken. Their team includes other Senior Engineers, Software Engineers, Business Analysts, System Architects, and DBAs. A primary responsibility is providing L3 support for the Firm's applications, including timely response to Service Desk issues while managing the bug-tracking tool during development and assigning defects to team developers.

Essential Duties

• Construction and unit testing of software across platforms (web, desktop, client-server); uses available technologies to create reusable, extendable, and maintainable systems and components
• Analysis of existing systems and implementation of requirements and change requests into design deliverables
• Leadership of developers (and sometimes others) through the project construction phase — planning, delegation, and status reporting to management; anticipates issues, risks, and strategic implementation methods; influences peers across IT and the Business organization
• Communication with project team members, including assisting QA with software testing, supporting tech leads and project management with estimation, planning, and status, and helping identify project issues and risks
• Review, validation, and interpretation of business and non-functional requirements; interaction with Business Analysts and business contacts
• Other duties as assigned

Education

• Bachelor's degree preferred in Computer Programming, Information Systems, or a similar field, or equivalent work experience in a computer-related field

Preferred Requirements

• May function as a performance advisor for staff and assist with goal-setting and development plans
• Training or experience in the accounting/auditing field
