Senior Mechanical Engineer – High-Speed Rotating Systems / EV Powertrain
We are building next-generation electric propulsion systems with a strong focus on high power-density axial flux motors and advanced EV drivetrains. We are looking for a senior mechanical engineer who has deep expertise in high-speed rotating machinery, precision mechanical design, transmission systems, or engine internal components — and who is excited to apply that experience to electric propulsion.
This role is ideal for engineers from automotive transmissions, gearboxes, ICE engine rotating assemblies, turbo machinery, aerospace rotating systems, pumps, compressors, or similar industries who understand rotor dynamics, thermal behavior, manufacturability, and reliability of high-speed mechanical systems.
Direct axial flux motor experience is not mandatory. What matters most is strong fundamentals in rotating mechanical systems, successful product development experience, and the ability to lead engineering execution from concept through production.
What You'll Do
- Lead the mechanical design and development of high-speed rotating systems for electric propulsion applications, including axial flux motors, rotor assemblies, housings, shafts, cooling systems, and driveline components.
- Drive design decisions around structural integrity, rotor dynamics, balancing, thermal management, manufacturability, NVH, sealing, and durability.
- Work closely with electromagnetic, controls, thermal, and manufacturing teams to develop high-performance electric propulsion systems.
- Translate experience from transmissions, engine internals, turbochargers, pumps, compressors, aerospace rotating equipment, or similar systems into EV motor architecture and product development.
- Own component and subsystem development from concept, analysis, prototyping, validation, and production release.
- Lead DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack-up, reliability, and root-cause investigations.
- Support prototype builds, supplier development, manufacturing processes, and testing activities.
- Guide and mentor a small mechanical engineering team while driving technical execution and engineering quality.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners for castings, machining, rotor assemblies, magnets, laminations, cooling systems, and precision rotating components.
- Contribute to development of scalable manufacturing methods for advanced electric motor systems.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience designing high-speed rotating mechanical systems.
- Strong background in one or more of the following:
- Automotive transmissions or gearboxes
- Engine internals / cranktrain systems
- Turbochargers or superchargers
- Pumps, compressors, turbines, or aerospace rotating equipment
- EV powertrain mechanical systems
- Strong understanding of:
- Rotor dynamics
- Bearings and sealing systems
- Thermal management
- Fatigue and structural durability
- Precision tolerancing and manufacturability
- High-speed balancing and NVH
- Proven track record of successfully taking products from concept to production.
- Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar.
- Experience with FEA and thermal/CFD analysis tools.
- Strong engineering judgment and problem-solving capability in fast-moving development environments.
- Experience leading projects or managing small engineering teams.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
Strong Plus
- Experience with electric motors, especially high power-density or axial flux architectures.
- Experience with cooling systems for rotating equipment.
- Experience with automotive or aerospace qualification and validation processes.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods for precision rotating components.
- Experience with ingress protection, submersible systems, or harsh-environment designs.
- Startup or rapid product development experience.
