Job Description

About Unmannd

We're building deeply intelligent UAVs for defence forces — designed to out-think, outmaneuver, and dominate even in contested environments. Our mission is to give armed forces an undeniable edge and help safeguard peace across borders. If you are driven to build something truly transformational — this is the place.

Role Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Unmannd, you will be at the forefront of turning ideas into production-ready platforms. While avionics, propulsion, and autonomy define what happens inside, it is your designs that shape the product the user sees, trusts, and depends on in the field. From concept sketches to production-ready platforms, you will create designs that are rugged, lightweight, and battlefield-proven. Working closely with cross-disciplinary teams, you will turn innovation off the screen and into reality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of complex mechanical structures and mechanisms for fixed-wing and VTOL UAVs with a focus on strength, weight efficiency, and field performance.
  • Own end-to-end mechanical design: concept → CAD → simulation → BOM → prototyping → production release.
  • Perform advanced structural analysis and validate designs under mission-critical conditions.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing (DFM), maintainability, and serviceability principles.
  • Collaborate with avionics, propulsion, and systems teams to achieve seamless integration.
  • Guide UAV prototyping, testing, and iteration in both lab and field environments.
  • Ensure compliance with military-grade standards and aerospace certification requirements.
  • Ensure designs meet military-grade standards, regulatory compliance, and operational safety.
  • Maintain structured documentation, including BOMs, test reports, design logs, and revision control.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering (or related field).
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in aerospace, UAVs, or robotics.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.) and FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation).
  • Strong foundation in structural mechanics, materials, composites, and lightweight design.
  • Proven experience with prototyping, testing, and transitioning designs to production.
  • Familiarity with aerospace compliance and certification standards (CEMILAC, DGCA, MIL-STD, etc.).
  • Ability to lead projects, conduct reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and cross-disciplinary collaboration ability.

Why Join Us

  • Be part of a mission-first startup building the future of defense aviation in India.
  • Work on real-world UAV platforms deployed for strategic use cases.
  • Get hands-on with full-system integration, flight testing, and defense-grade technology.
  • Collaborate with a passionate and driven team to solve some of the toughest engineering challenges.Shape the future of defense tech—and see your work fly.
  • Build products that matter—and see them fly.
