Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Outdoor Lighting and Solar Products) (m/f/d)

who combines strong technical expertise with a passion for working in interdisciplinary engineering teams and bringing innovative solar-powered products to market.

YOUR ROLE:

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role at our R&D and solar product development hub in Mumbai. You will be responsible for driving and supporting the successful development of innovative solar-powered products (e.g. solar lights, solar IoT masts) while providing technical expertise, guidance, project leadership, and team development skills.

You will work on various mechanical design tasks. You will coordinate cross-functional activities between mechanical engineering, industrial design, photovoltaics, (opto)electronics, and production to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to specification and international quality standards.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Define detailed product specifications in close cooperation and communication with the European headquarters.
• Develop new solar products including the selection of buy components and the specification of make components.
• Detailed mechanical design of electromechanical components, aluminium cast parts, cable harnesses, poles, assemblies etc. from concept to serial production
• Perform structural and thermal analysis, and material selection to enhance product durability and efficiency
• Develop prototypes, conduct testing, and refine designs based on performance and reliability assessments
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations
• Optimize designs for manufacturability, ease of installation, and maintenance
• Manage engineering documentation, including 3D models, technical drawings, and BOMs
• Data maintenance in ERP system
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers
• Coordinate and manage interdisciplinary product development projects
• Conduct technical reviews and provide guidance throughout the product development process.
• Define team objectives, priorities, and development plans
• Establish engineering best practices, design standards, and quality processes.
• Report project progress, technical risks, and resource requirements to management.

YOUR QUALIFICATION & SKILLS:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• At least 7 years of experience in electromechanical product development, covering the complete product life cycle from requirements analysis to design, validation and testing.
• A minimum of 2 - 3 years in a project or team management role.
• Proven ability to manage interdisciplinary engineering teams and product development projects.
• Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence within a team.
• Proven knowledge in designing electromechanical components, steel constructions, and aluminum die cast parts (e.g. for LED lighting products)
• Strong proficiency in using CAD software (SolidWorks preferably) and mechanical and thermal CAD simulation tools (e.g. SolidWorks plugin, Ansys, etc.)
• Skilled in cable harness design and documentation
• Experience in the design of automation equipment and machinery for the assembly of electromechanical components
• Structured, independent way of working, precise and efficient working style
• Ability to balance hands-on engineering work with management responsibilities.
• Team orientation, good communication skills
• Very good spoken and written English
• Enthusiasm for innovative, environmentally friendly products
