Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Position: Senior / Lead Mechanical Design & Execution Engineer

Location: Irungattukottai, Chennai

Experience: 7–12 Years

Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech. – Mechanical / Automation Engineering

About the Role:

We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Design & Execution Engineer with strong experience in SPM, industrial automation, machine assembly, commissioning, and troubleshooting. The role involves end-to-end ownership of mechanical design, engineering calculations, machine build, testing, and project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering:

• Design compact, precise, and efficient machines based on customer requirements.
• Prepare BOMs, SOPs, exploded views, and detailed manufacturing drawings with proper part numbering.
• Perform engineering calculations for motors, gearboxes, conveyors, lifters, loaders/unloaders, linear motion systems, and pneumatic systems.
• Evaluate BOMs and identify cost-effective equivalent components.

Assembly, Testing & Commissioning:

• Lead machine assembly and integration with assigned manpower.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and motion-related issues and implement design improvements.
• Support installation, commissioning, testing, and debugging at in-house and customer locations.
• Work during night shifts when required for critical project activities.

Project Execution:

• Manage assigned engineering activities and track project progress.
• Coordinate with Electrical, Controls, Procurement, Production, vendors, OEMs, and fabricators.
• Prepare technical progress reports and ensure timely project execution.

Manufacturing Process Expertise:

• Apply knowledge of materials, heat treatment, surface finishing, machining tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
• Ensure proper integration and validation of OEM components.
• Conduct DFMEA and identify potential design risks.
• Ensure compliance with engineering, quality, and safety standards.
• Prepare 2D manufacturing drawings with GD&T as per applicable ISO/ASME standards.

Required Skills:

• Strong experience in SPM and industrial automation machine design.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including GD&T.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, actuators, motors, sensors, conveyors, and linear motion systems.
• Strong understanding of mechanical calculations and component selection.
• Experience in BOM preparation, analysis, and cost optimization.
• Knowledge of sheet metal, machining, material selection, and surface treatments.
• Hands-on experience in machine assembly, debugging, commissioning, and design optimization.
• Strong communication, documentation, coordination, and team leadership skills.
