Senior Manager, Database Platform Engineering

Overview

We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to oversee the strategy, delivery, and operation of a large-scale database platform that powers critical business applications across a complex cloud ecosystem.

This role combines technical leadership, people management, platform strategy, and stakeholder engagement. You will be responsible for guiding a globally distributed engineering organization, driving modernization initiatives, and ensuring the platform delivers high availability, security, scalability, and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in cloud infrastructure and database technologies, along with a proven track record leading large engineering teams in fast-paced environments.

What You Will Do

Platform Strategy & Architecture

• Define and evolve the long-term strategy for enterprise database platforms across public and private cloud environments.
• Establish architectural standards and technical roadmaps that support business growth and operational resilience.
• Drive adoption of modern database technologies and best practices across engineering teams.
• Partner with senior technology leaders to align platform investments with organizational objectives.

Engineering Leadership

• Lead and mentor a geographically distributed team of managers, engineers, database specialists, and platform experts.
• Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Develop team capabilities through coaching, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
• Build strong partnerships across infrastructure, security, platform, and application engineering organizations.

Operations & Reliability

• Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of database services, including design, implementation, deployment, maintenance, and incident management.
• Ensure the reliability, availability, performance, and security of mission-critical database environments.
• Drive operational excellence through automation, observability, standardization, and continuous optimization.
• Lead major incidents and coordinate resolution efforts across multiple technical teams.

Product & Service Management

• Own service strategy, roadmap planning, prioritization, and delivery for database platform offerings.
• Balance customer needs, technical constraints, and business priorities when making investment decisions.
• Establish measurable service-level objectives and operational performance metrics.
• Continuously improve customer satisfaction through better platform capabilities, support models, and service quality.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

• Manage strategic relationships with technology vendors and service providers.
• Lead contract discussions, licensing negotiations, and technical partnerships.
• Communicate effectively with senior executives, engineering leadership, and business stakeholders.
• Present platform vision, risks, investment needs, and performance metrics to leadership teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, database technologies, or related domains.
• 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional engineering organizations.
• Demonstrated success managing medium to large engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation.
• Hands-on background working with database technologies and platform operations.
• Experience delivering large-scale infrastructure programs and technology transformations.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Fluent professional English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating large-scale database platforms supporting high-volume transactional systems.
• Expertise in relational database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, or similar platforms.
• Experience with NoSQL technologies including MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, Couchbase, or equivalent solutions.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code, platform automation, site reliability engineering, and cloud operations.
• Experience working in multinational and geographically distributed organizations.
• Knowledge of modern observability, resiliency, and performance engineering practices.
• Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities.
