About the Role
Flipkart is seeking a seasoned Government Relations professional based in Kolkata to lead strategic engagement across West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, and the Northeast (including Assam). This role is pivotal in positioning Flipkart as a preferred state partner by fostering a harmonized policy environment, fast-tracking project clearances, and securing operational permits for fulfillment centers and hyperlocal stores. Acting as a strategic bridge, the lead will navigate complex bureaucratic landscapes to resolve infrastructure, labor, and regulatory bottlenecks while advocating for MSME market access and Ease of Doing Business initiatives. The ideal candidate must possess exceptional stakeholder management skills and the operational grit to mitigate crises, handle law enforcement liaison, and drive long-term e-commerce ecosystem development across these critical gateway states.
This position to be based out of Kolkata, West Bengal will focus on the following:
- E-commerce engagement in states; liasioning activities including stakeholder engagement, advocacy, regular cadence with state governments on licenses, permits, GST, taxation issue, facilitating and supporting ease of doing business.
- Act as a bridge between the organization and stakeholders by partnering with governments and district authorities to enhance business performance and create a favorable environment for e-commerce, particularly for SMEs.
- Ensure seamless resolution of infrastructure and regulatory issues by supporting cross-functional teams; Addressing, solving, finding solutions with government bureaucracy on issues related to operational challenges, labour, crisis and risk mitigation etc.
- Liasioning with Government of West Bengal WBSIDC, state departments for licenses/approvals including exceptional approvals as and when needed to further seamless operations for Big Box in Haringhata, Nadia district
- Initiating formal meetings with state government officials, handle law and order issues, monitor government engagements (updates on the government, recent developments and movements in the government)
- Advocate for and safeguard the company's interests across various governmental levels, including state administration, police, district, and local authorities.
- Monitoring key developments which have the potential to impact Flipkart's operations in these states including business exigencies, license & permit requirements, support to APST and other specific requirements as part of escalation matrix.
- To mitigate crisis, labour Issues, law enforcement issues including post BBD and non-BBD times. Leveraging, discussing and engaging for strategic projects with state departments.
- Mapping of key state events; panel discussions, leveraging state associations to further Flipkart interests. Scheduling meetings with Chief Minister, concerned ministers, law enforcement officials and government decision makers
- Engaging with state governments to drive and support market access, linkage opportunities, engaging with state government to support initiatives for nation building (FPO sourcing, capacity building, sustainability)
- Developing an eco-system including the consultation process in the ease of doing business in the State for e-commerce sector, market access programme etc.
- FK collaboration/partnership with West Bengal & other State Governments on various subjects related to e-commerce besides identifying flagship schemes and marquee programs that contributes to the growth of MSMEs
- States like Assam, Bihar & the seven sister states have been opening up to e-commerce marketplace on MSMEs, market access, market linkage programs besides exploring collaboration/partnership opportunities with the state governments on various subjects as part of ongoing outreach and engagement programs.
- MoU for Ease of doing business with an aim to create a conducive policy environment for promoting technology and process-based enterprise in the priority states including West Bengal, Bihar & Assam.

You will drive the seamless resolution of infrastructure, labor, and regulatory bottlenecks by navigating government bureaucracy and managing high-stakes crises with cross-functional teams. This is a high-impact role where you will collaborate directly with leadership to position Flipkart's offerings, fast-track project clearances, and lead regional reputation management across West Bengal and the East.
