Control Management at American Express is a comprehensive and integrated program designed to identify, measure, report, monitor and control operational risk exposures of various business processes. It supports business units in meeting all relevant operational risk, regulatory and compliance requirements.
The objective of the GCS Control Management Specialized Operational Risk (OR) team is to provide subject matter expertise on specific Operational Risk topics to ensure the BU is equipped with in-depth knowledge of risk-stripes to manage and mitigate these risks effectively; supports the BU with expert guidance for topical Operational Risk intelligence.
GCS is looking for a Senior Manager of Specialized OR to lead a diverse team of high-performing professionals focused on ensuring control management is embedded in the day-to-day operations of our organization. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across business units, functional areas, and geographies. Reporting into the Director - GCS Control Management COE - India, this Band 35 position will be responsible to effectively carry out Conduct Risk Monitoring and related activities for GCS Customer Facing Colleagues and governance around GCS Inventories
The Senior Manager, Global Commercial Services, Control Management COE will:
Provide leadership and oversight of large-scale operational risk management programs within the first line (i.e., Third-Party Life Cycle Management (TLM), Business Continuity Management (BCM)
Serve as the go-to subject matter expert within the BU for these Risk Management programs for TLM Ongoing monitoring and BCM programs
Responsible for end-to-end management of GCS Business Continuity Plans and Business Impact Analysis in line with AEMP 05
Ensure GCS is compliant with AEMP10, Regulatory requirements/ changes, Enterprise initiatives and leverage Industry best practices
Partner with various teams across markets by maintaining a strong focus on Plan Management, testing & implementing a consistent Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) program for the business
Ensure all activities & guidance provided to BU are aligned with standards set by centralized specialist risk-stripe teams, 2nd line requirement, Project Guardian, etc.
Comply with policies and programs pertaining to specific risk types, and support with design/ enhancement of BU procedures /standards by providing topic-specific insight
Develop and maintain a repository of topical risk information, including emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory updates relevant to each area of expertise
Support with design and dissemination of targeted training and awareness programs to increase understanding and management of specific risk topics within GCS
Consult on the design and implementation of controls tailored to specialized risk areas, and provide broader input on the area of risk
Partner with second and third line to establish best practices
Minimum Qualifications:
6 to 8 years of experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function) Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-wide risk management frameworks and methodologies.
Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior BU/tech counterparts
Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or
Operational Standards
Experience within financial services industry
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
Demonstrated history and ability to manage large teams, spread over geographies and with varying backgrounds
Prior experience in Enterprise Risk Management programs is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field; advanced degrees (e.g., MBA) or certifications are advantageous
Experience in at least one of the following:
Strong Enterprise Risk Management experience understanding of financial markets, products, and regulatory requirements impacting risk management
Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-wide, large scale risk management programs, frameworks and methodologies
Serving as the go-to subject matter expert pertaining to specific operational risk types
Excellent analytical, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior stakeholders
Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including ability to build and motivate high-performing teams
