Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Governance
- Define and roll out C&I/Automation strategy: platform standards, architecting, lifecycle & obsolescence plan, and technology roadmap (APC, analytics, digital).
- Govern engineering standards & MOC, documentation quality (P&IDs, C&E, loop sheets), and audit readiness.
- Build and manage capex/opex budgets, inventory/spares policy, and vendor panels.
- Reliability & Operations Excellence
- Ensure high availability of DCS/PLC/SCADA/Historian, SIS/ESD, and F&G; drive PM/RCM, calibration compliance, alarm management.
- Lead plantwide badactor elimination, MTBF/MTTR improvement, and turnaround/shutdown C&I planning.
- Champion control loop performance and APC/optimization initiatives to improve OEE and reduce energy/variability.
- Projects & Commissioning
- Own C&I deliverables for major brownfield/greenfield projects: URS, FEED/detail, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and handover.
- Manage EPC/SI performance, interface management, and ensure OTIF delivery within cost and quality gates.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure functional safety lifecycle (IEC 61511): SIL determination, verification, proof testing, bypass governance, and V&V.
- Drive PHA/HAZOP/LOPA closure; ensure hazardous area compliance (ATEX/IECEx) and instrument integrity.
- Maintain calibration and data integrity standards (e.g., pharma GxP/Part 11 where applicable).
- Cybersecurity & OT/IT Convergence
- Establish OT cybersecurity controls (IEC 62443 aligned): asset inventory, baselining, hardening, patching, backups/DR, remote access governance, segmentation (zones/conduits).
- Partner with IT for network architecture, identity, incident response, and monitoring.
- People & Capability
- Build a highperforming C&I organization: workforce planning, skills matrix, training, and succession.
- Coach Managers/Leads; drive a culture of safety, problemsolving, standardization, and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder & Commercial Management
- Align with Production, QA, EHS, Finance, Procurement on priorities; communicate risks/mitigations.
- Own AMCs, MSAs, SLAs, and negotiate vendor performance and total cost of ownership.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- System availability (DCS/PLC/SIS/SCADA), OEE contribution, and energy/utility savings
- MTBF/MTTR trend, badactor closures, alarm KPIs (rate, standing alarms, EEMUA/ISA targets)
- Calibration/Prooftest compliance (%) and audit findings closed on time
- Project OTIF, cost variance, and startup curve to stable operations
- Cybersecurity posture (backup/restore success, patch currency, incident count, recovery time)
- MOC & documentation compliance, change success rate, zero unapproved bypasses
- Talent metrics (skills matrix coverage, attrition, internal promotions, training hours)
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: B.E./B.Tech (Instrumentation/Control/Electronics/Electrical with controls) or higher.
- Experience: 1218+ years in C&I/Automation with 5+ years leading teams/managers or large programs.
- Industry: Process (chemicals, pharma, oil & gas, power, metals, FMCG) or discrete manufacturing with complex automation.
- Nice to have: Exposure to multisite governance or corporate standards role.
