About Clairvolex
Clairvolex is an AI-native intellectual property company built on a simple conviction: in IP, machines accelerate and experts decide. We partner with the in-house IP teams of large US and European corporations to develop and manage their portfolios and serve as an extended arm to global law firms in drafting and prosecution.
What that conviction means in practice is that professional judgement stays where it belongs. Our AI does the retrieval, the extraction, the first pass and the heavy lifting. It does not make the call. Patent attorneys, patent agents, and senior paralegals remain accountable for what goes out the door, and their expertise shapes the products directly: our IP professionals sit with the product and engineering teams and define how the tools must behave. You will spend less time on the mechanical work and more on the work you trained for, and the tools you use will be tools you helped build. www.clairvolex.com.
The Role
We are looking for a sharp, intellectually curious finance professional who can build a business case, read a market, and sit across from an investor or senior external stakeholder and contribute meaningfully — not someone whose work ends at the MIS deck or the variance table. You will work directly with the CEO/CFO office and business leadership on financial strategy, scenario modelling, market intelligence, and investor engagement, alongside full ownership of core finance operations.
This is not only a reporting job.
What You Will Do
A. Financial Modelling & Strategic Analysis
- Build and own financial models for business scenarios — pricing decisions, capacity planning, new service line evaluation, partnership structures, and strategic pivots.
- Translate operational inputs (headcount, utilization, billing rates, client mix, BU-level performance) into integrated P&L and cash flow projections.
- Model sensitivity and scenario ranges to frame trade-offs clearly for leadership decisions.
- Support evaluation of strategic initiatives with structured financial analysis and business case framing.
B. Market & Competitive Intelligence
- Conduct primary and secondary research on the IP/legal-tech market — competitor pricing, market sizing, segment growth, key verticals, and demand signals from the US market.
- Synthesize external intelligence into structured briefs for leadership; connect market signals to pricing, positioning, and business development implications.
- Track competitor moves, analyst coverage, and funding activity in adjacent spaces; maintain a working view of the competitive landscape.
This is a capability we explicitly look for and that is not typical in a standard FP&A hire. Research quality and synthesis matter as much as the modelling.
C. Revenue Reconciliation & P&L Ownership
- Own monthly revenue reconciliation across Expert Centres (3 business units); maintain and publish P&L with actuals vs plan, variance commentary, and trend analysis.
- Build and maintain management dashboards; ensure leadership has a clean, current, and reliable view of business performance at all times.
- Produce MIS that is interpreted, not just distributed — every number comes with a point of view.
D. Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual planning cycle — budget build, quarterly reforecast, and long-range plan.
- Maintain rolling forecasts with variance tracking and forward-looking commentary at EC and revenue-type level.
- Partner with business heads on cost, headcount, and capacity planning inputs.
E. Investor & Fundraise Support
- Participate in meetings with investors, advisors, and senior external stakeholders on fundraise, business strategy, and commercial discussions.
- Capture, assimilate, and synthesize meeting notes — translate complex discussions into clean summaries, action points, and follow-up briefs for leadership.
- Support preparation of financial materials, investor decks, and data-room inputs as required.
The candidate will not be expected to lead investor conversations at this stage, but must have the presence, preparation, and structured thinking to be useful in the room.
What We Are Looking For
Experience
- 7-8 years in Business Finance, FP&A, or Strategic Finance in a B2B technology, SaaS, or domain-intensive services company with significant US market exposure.
- Track record in financial modelling beyond spreadsheet maintenance — scenario analysis, sensitivity modelling, business case structuring with clear output for decision-makers.
- Exposure to investor conversations, fundraise processes, or board-level financial reporting is a strong plus.
- Comfort operating in a small, high-velocity team where scope is broad and the job description is a starting point, not a ceiling.
We are not looking for: A pure MIS analyst or reporting professional whose primary output is slides and trackers.
What Matters
- Quick Comprehension — picks up new domains fast, understands the IP/legal-tech business context, and connects numbers to commercial reality.
- Strong communicator — structured, concise, capable of synthesizing complexity for a senior or external audience in writing and in person.
- Ownership mindset — flags problems early, closes loops, does not need to be chased.
- Intellectually curious — reads the market, follows industry developments, brings external perspective into internal conversations.
- Pedigree matters — strong academic track record is a meaningful signal about learning ability and intellectual rigor.
Technical Skills
- Advanced Excel — financial modelling standard; scenario structures, dynamic formulas, data integrity.
- Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent BI tool for dashboards and reporting.
- Research tools and databases for market and competitive intelligence.
