Job Description

Manages individual contributors typically up through the Sr. Actuary level with focus on the Actuarial sub-function. Provides input for goals and objectives to support functional success. Manages the production of the department to accomplish goals. Has broad experience in own specialty and a range of experience in general actuarial techniques to effectively manage a small team. Oversee and/or execute various actuarial techniques, conduct research into laws and regulations applicable to the company or actuarial science, and analysis of competitive developments in the marketplace. Uses actuarial concepts to resolve complex issues. Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain results. Handles intermediate level assignments and strong actuarial knowledge may be shared with lower level roles. Works with latitude for decisions to teach/mentor others possessing less experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads and creates models, assume responsibility for those models & runs projections.
  • Ensures product lines supported comply with various state and federal regulations.
  • Analyzes sales, expense, persistency and mortality/morbidity experience Researches, designs and develops new product reserve methods in support of company strategy.
  • Manages and prepares testing of interest rate risk, calculates and communicates the financial impact and projected potential liquidity of hedging programs. Prepares and presents analysis and recommendations to Senior Management and line of business.
  • Leads and builds, maintains, and runs complex actuarial models with responsibility for those models and presenting results to management.
  • Ensures valuation complies with actuarial standards and applicable regulations.
  • Monitors and reports on drivers of earnings, including mortality, terminations, expenses, and sales distributions.
  • Performs financial analyses and reports results in support of internal management reporting and external financial and regulatory reporting.
  • Hire, train, and develop departmental staff.
  • Responsible for performance reviews and other supervisory related tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science or math/statistics required.
  • Experience to 9-11 years and expertise in MG-ALFA is a must have with experience in GGY Axis being a good to have.
  • Has conceptual knowledge of actuarial area and transferring skills to new projects. Can research and design solutions for complex actuarial issues.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office including Excel, Access and VBA.
  • Experience with pricing/ALM software such as MG ALFA or GGY AXIS required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to present complex concepts and analysis to a variety of audiences including company leaders.
