THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking a skilled Technical Writer to create, structure, and deliver high-quality technical documentation for advanced hardware and software products. In this role, you will partner closely with engineering, marketing, product applications, and subject matter experts to develop clear, accurate, and user-focused content for technical audiences.

You will play an important role in improving how information is organized, maintained, and delivered across documentation workflows. This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative, global environment while helping teams produce documentation that supports customers, developers, and internal stakeholders with clarity and consistency.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and collaborative communicator who is passionate about information structure, content quality, and user experience. You are comfortable managing multiple priorities, coordinating with global teams across time zones, and building positive working relationships with cross-functional partners. You bring strong ownership, excellent organization, and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality documentation in a fast-paced environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation for hardware, software, and developer-focused audiences.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, marketing, and application teams to gather technical inputs and translate complex concepts into clear documentation.
• Partner with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy, completeness, consistency, and usability.
• Manage multiple documentation projects with overlapping timelines, priorities, and release schedules.
• Apply and support documentation standards, style guides, terminology guidelines, and content quality practices.
• Organize documentation plans, track project status, communicate progress, and identify risks or dependencies.
• Create and maintain structured content using XML-based authoring workflows and related publishing systems.
• Support Git-based documentation workflows using Markdown, reStructuredText, and related tools.
• Improve documentation processes, templates, and content delivery approaches to enhance efficiency and user experience.
• Collaborate with global teams to support release-driven documentation delivery.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Demonstrated experience in technical writing within a high-tech environment.
• Proven ability to manage multiple documentation projects with overlapping timelines and deadlines.
• Experience working directly with subject matter experts across engineering and product teams.
• Background in applying and enforcing multiple style guides, writing standards, and documentation guidelines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience collaborating across global teams and time zones.
• Strong organizational skills, including project tracking, status reporting, and attention to detail.
• Hands-on experience with DITA or other XML-based authoring and publishing systems.
• Working knowledge of Git-based documentation workflows, Markdown, and reStructuredText.
• Relevant technical background or hands-on experience supporting technical products or developer audiences.
• Experience in the semiconductor domain or related hardware/software ecosystem desired.
• Familiarity with Python scripting or programming concepts desired.
• Experience creating developer-focused deliverables such as API documentation, reference guides, or technical specifications.
• Experience using AI tools to support documentation workflows, including writing, editing, review, validation, or quality checks.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visio or other technical illustration and graphics tools.
• Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence.
• Familiarity with Agile or release-driven documentation environments.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Technical Communication, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
• University-issued certificate in Technical Communication desired.
