Role: L&D Senior Technical Trainer
Location: Gurugram
Timings: Night Shift: 5:00PM-2:00 AM
Role Overview
We are hiring a Senior Trainer to lead capability building for offshore teams supporting a complex mortgage underwriting function.
This is a domain-first training role, not a generic L&D position. You will first build deep operational context by understanding real underwriting workflows, decision frameworks, risk assessments, and edge cases. From there, you will design and deliver structured training that enables underwriters to make accurate, consistent, and high-quality decisions at scale.
You will play a critical role in ensuring underwriters ramp faster, apply judgment correctly, and stay current as policies and processes evolve.
Experience & Background
- 6–8 years of relevant experience preferred (quality over tenure)
- Strong background in mortgage underwriting, credit risk, financial services, or lending operations
- Direct exposure to document analysis, borrower risk assessment, income evaluation, and decision logic
- Proven experience training judgment-driven, complex processes (not basic SOP-based workflows)
- Hands-on trainer who has designed and delivered training — not only managed programs
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Immersion
- Complete full underwriter training and certification internally
- Develop deep understanding of underwriting guidelines, exceptions, and real-world decision scenarios
New Hire Training
- Design and deliver structured onboarding for new underwriters
- Train cohorts on underwriting workflows, tools, documentation review, and decision frameworks
- Ensure trainees are job-ready through assessments, mock files, and case-based learning
Ongoing Capability Development
- Conduct refresher and advanced training on:
- Policy and guideline changes
- Quality gaps and error trends
- Complex scenarios and edge cases
- Partner with quality and operations teams to turn performance insights into targeted training
Content & Systems
- Create high-quality training content:
- Process guides
- Case studies
- Scenario-based exercises
- Assessments and certification checks
- Maintain structured training materials within the LMS
- Enable asynchronous learning modules to support flexible start dates and continuous learning
Stakeholder Partnership
- Work closely with underwriting leaders to ensure training reflects real decision-making expectations
- Align training with quality benchmarks, SLAs, and risk standards
What Success Looks Like
- Faster and more consistent ramp-up of new underwriters
- Reduction in early-stage quality errors
- Lower dependency on senior underwriters for basic training support
- Structured, version-controlled training content that scales across teams
- Underwriters demonstrating strong judgment in complex cases
Growth Path
- Opportunity to build and mentor a team of trainers as operations scale
- Scope to specialize in advanced underwriting training or learning systems
- Long-term role in shaping capability development across offshore risk and underwriting functions
