Senior Java Software Engineer

Role: Senior Java Software Engineer (Big Data / Kafka)

Position Type: Full-Time Contract (40hrs/week)

Contract Duration: Long Term

Work Schedule: 8 hours/day (Mon-Fri)

Location: 100% remote in India

We are seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to build and support high-scale backend applications that process terabyte-level data and integrate with Big Data and real-time streaming platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, complex SQL/database optimization, Kafka, and Big Data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark. The role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, automated testing, troubleshooting, and the ability to work independently on complex, data-intensive systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and optimize services that process large-scale/terabyte-level datasets.
• Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, database schemas, indexes, and data processing.
• Build event-driven integrations using Kafka/MQTT.
• Work with Big Data platforms such as Hadoop and Spark.
• Develop automated unit and integration tests using a quality-first/TDD mindset.
• Troubleshoot performance, integration, and production issues.
• Participate in code reviews and follow software engineering best practices.
• Support CI/CD and containerized development environments.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on Java/Spring Boot development.
• Strong SQL and database optimization experience.
• Hands-on experience with Big Data / terabyte-scale data processing.
• Experience with Kafka or MQTT.
• Experience with automated testing such as JUnit/Mockito.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and backend architecture.

Nice to Have: Docker, Jenkins, Python, Unix, Testcontainers.
