Job Description

As a Senior IT Technologist - Data Migration ETL Developer at Medtronic, you'll be a critical player in designing, developing, and implementing robust ETL solutions for complex data migration and integration projects. You'll ensure data integrity and seamless data flow across enterprise systems, directly contributing to Medtronic's mission of innovating in healthcare technology. This role demands an independent contributor capable of solving challenging data problems and influencing future data architectures.

A Day in the Life

You will drive data integration and system efficiency by:

  • Developing, documenting, and configuring system specifications that meet business requirements and architecture standards.
  • Planning and deploying data solutions, ensuring compliance and security.
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable ETL pipelines for large-scale data migrations from various sources to target systems (e.g., SAP, data warehouses, cloud platforms).
  • Writing complex SQL queries and scripts for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Implementing data quality checks and error handling mechanisms to ensure data accuracy.
  • Optimizing ETL processes for performance and scalability.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex data-related issues across development, testing, and production.
  • Collaborating closely with business analysts, functional consultants, and architects to understand data requirements and mappings.
  • Documenting data system designs and configurations.
  • Helping to identify system functionality or performance deficiencies and implement corrective changes.
  • Strategically designing and testing technology solutions to meet data needs.
  • Potentially coaching junior specialists and managing data migration projects.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of hands-on experience in data integration, ETL development, and data migration at an enterprise level.
  • Expertise in at least one major ETL tool (e.g., Informatica, SAP BODS, SSIS, Talend).
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for complex querying and data manipulation across various relational databases.
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts (dimensional modeling, star schemas).
  • Proven experience with large-scale data migration projects.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and master data management (MDM) principles.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) for automation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with cloud-based ETL services (e.g., AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory) and cloud data warehousing (e.g., Snowflake).
  • Prior experience in the healthcare or medical device industry.
  • Familiarity with SAP data models.
