Why This Role
If you love turning complex software and AI ideas into strong patents, this is a high-ownership role with direct mentorship. You will work side-by-side with Praveer Gupta (Director, Patents and Innovation Strategy, Head of IP) and partner with engineers across India, the US and our other global locations to capture, draft, and prosecute AI and software inventions.
This is an execution-first patent prosecution role (drafting + Office Actions), with exposure to invention harvesting, searching, and broader IP governance (open source, Responsible AI, data privacy).
What You Will Do
- Draft high-quality software and AI patent applications (US and Europe focused, global filings as needed) - convert messy technical discussions, or single line ideas into clear specifications and claim sets.
- Prepare persuasive Office Action responses and prosecution strategy - including Section 101 eligibility, Sections 112, 102 and 103 rejections, and examiner interview preparation where needed.
- Run inventor engagement - support invention farming sessions, conduct inventor interviews, and build trusted relationships with technologists; over time, lead interviews end-to-end.
- Perform prior art searching and analysis - patentability searches, competitive prior art reviews, and support Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) and landscaping projects as needed.
- Support broader IP workstreams - trademark intake triage, open source compliance workflows, and IP inputs for Responsible AI and data privacy initiatives.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on patent prosecution experience with a strong focus on software
- Drafting depth - ideally 50 to 100+ software patent applications drafted end-to-end
- Prosecution depth - ideally 100+ Office Action responses (US experience strongly preferred)
- Searching depth - ideally 100+ prior art searches (patentability and or FTO)
- Working knowledge of US patent practice - MPEP familiarity and practical awareness of Section 101 case law for software and AI
- Strong ability to learn new technology quickly and write crisply - excellent organization, technical interviewing, and explanation skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field
- High ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver reliably in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have
- Indian Patent Agent qualification
- Experience with AI/ML, NLP, Generative AI, agents, enterprise SaaS, cloud or data platforms
- Experience with examiner interviews or hearings
- Experience with open source licensing (Apache 2.0, MIT, GPL families) and or privacy and data governance topics
- Experience with patent search platforms or AI-enabled searching
What Success Looks Like (First 6 To 12 Months)
- Become fluent in Uniphore product and platform areas relevant to AI and software inventions
- Consistently draft 20 to 30 clear, claim-ready applications with minimal rework and strong technical story
- Own Office Action response drafts with solid legal and technical reasoning and clean writing
- Run inventor interviews confidently and help scale invention harvesting cadence
