Position Overview:

Hitachi Rail is seeking an experienced Installation Manager to lead, coordinate, and control the installation of Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system equipment for metro/rail projects. This role is based in Bangalore and may be offered on On-roll or 3rd-party contract, depending on suitability. The Installation Manager will work closely with Civil, Electrical & Mechanical (E&M), and AFC teams to ensure seamless execution of installation works in accordance with approved engineering designs and project schedules.

Job Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Installation Planning & Execution

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all AFC installation activities across project sites.

  • Ensure AFC rooms, UPS/power supply connections, cable trays/raceways, and related infrastructure are completed by Civil and E&M contractors as per approved drawings/CSDs.

  • Oversee field activities including cable laying, equipment mounting, and support for testing and commissioning.

  • Ensure inspection, verification, and acceptance of delivered AFC equipment prior to installation.

  • Execute Installation Test Plans, identify deficiencies, and ensure timely rectification.

2. Coordination & Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate daily with Civil, E&M, AFC subcontractors, and Employer representatives to streamline installation works.

  • Participate in routine coordination meetings to review progress, constraints, and upcoming activities.

  • Provide accurate site access and progress updates to Project Manager, Planning, and Contract teams to support schedule updates and Extension of Time (EOT) justification.

  • Ensure alignment of installation activities with overall project schedule and inter-disciplinary interfaces.

3. Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all safety guidelines, site regulations, and environmental standards.

  • Monitor installation quality in alignment with engineering documents, method statements, and project specifications.

  • Enforce adherence to quality processes and maintain documentation for audits and inspections.

4. Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track daily progress and maintain documentation for all installation tasks.

  • Prepare detailed progress reports (daily, weekly, monthly) summarizing installation status, risks, delays, and action plans.

  • Highlight critical issues impacting installation and propose mitigation strategies.

Skills:

1. Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD familiarity with project management tools is an advantage.

  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, CSDs, and AFC system components.


2. Soft Skills

  • Excellent stakeholder and coordination skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective communication, documentation, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage dynamic site conditions.

Experience:

  • Total experience of 10 years, with minimum 6 years in interface management or installation activities related to AFC systems in Metro/Railways/High-Speed Rail/LRT projects.

  • Strong understanding of AFC system architecture, subsystems, and system interfaces.

  • Hands-on experience coordinating field installation and managing multiple contractors/teams.

  • Experience working with project documentation, inspection processes, and installation testplans.

Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Communication Engineering, or a related field.
