We are hiring an experienced and certified Senior Inpatient DRG Medical Coder with strong expertise in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding for inpatient facility records. The role requires in-depth clinical knowledge, accuracy in code assignment, and the ability to work independently on complex medical and surgical inpatient cases while adhering to official coding guidelines and compliance standards.
This is a production coding role, not an auditing position.
Experience Requirements
- 710 years of overall medical coding experience
- Minimum 5 years of Inpatient Facility (DRG) coding experience
- Strong hands-on exposure to complex inpatient cases
Key Responsibilities
Inpatient Coding- Assign accurate and complete ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for inpatient encounters
- Review full inpatient medical records including:
- History & Physical (H&P)
- Progress notes
- Operative reports
- Discharge summaries
- Ensure correct code sequencing in compliance with official guidelines
Documentation Review & Querying
- Identify missing, unclear, or conflicting clinical documentation
- Initiate provider queries following approved query guidelines
- Communicate effectively with CDI teams and clinical staff to clarify documentation
Compliance & Quality- Adhere to:
- ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Official Guidelines
- Coding Clinic advice
- Client-specific coding policies
- Maintain high standards of coding accuracy, consistency, and turnaround time
- Participate in internal quality reviews and feedback sessions
Productivity & Collaboration
- Meet assigned productivity and quality benchmarks
- Work collaboratively with QA, audit, and operations teams
- Support junior coders by sharing coding knowledge and best practices when required
