Job Description

The Senior General Ledger Accountant R2R is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant Record-to-Report activities with strong ownership of the month-end close process. This role ensures high-quality financial reporting, robust balance sheet control, and effective coordination with stakeholders, while driving continuous process improvements and supporting team performance.

You will report directly to the GL Team Lead and work closely with GL accounting team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of GL accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities

Job Overview

  • Month -END Close & GL Ownership
  • Own and execute end-to-end R2R activities, including journal postings, accruals, prepayments, allocations, and reclassifications.
  • Ensure timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close in line with agreed close calendars and SLAs.
  • Review trial balance, P&L, and balance sheet to identify variances and ensure accurate financial results.
  • Perform post-close analysis and ensure timely corrections, if required.
  • Prepare and submit Balance sheet Reconciliations (including Cash, FA, Payroll and Revenue) with accuracy and timeliness. Maintain accounts health by consistently clearing aged open items
  • Support GL Accountants with information needed to respond to requests from regulatory authorities and auditors
  • Ensure GL accounting team compliance
  • Perform prescribed GL accounting activities within accounting principles and regulatory requirements and ensure all transactions adhere to them
  • Ensure period end close activities are compliant with the fiscal close calendar, ensuring adequate time for collaboration with various teams impacted
  • Ensuring all R2R controls are adhered to and documented appropriately
  • Apply knowledge to accurately record all financial transactions and maintain supporting documentation
  • Process Improvement & Standardization
  • Identify opportunities to improve close efficiency, accuracy, and documentation.
  • Drive standardization of R2R templates, reconciliation formats, and close checklists.
  • Support automation initiatives and system/process changes within R2R.
  • Collaborate with others
  • Establish relationships and credibility with GL accounting team as well as cross-functional teams and stakeholders (FC's, Group team, etc)
  • Collaborate with other Finance process owners (Procure to Pay and Order to Cash) to ensure all financial transactions are captured
  • Collaborate with Master Data team for required data points, best practices and standards and data issues
  • Collaborate with other SSC process delivery teams to exchange information, as required, and support process improvement where dependencies may exist

Team Support & Quality Review

Review work performed by junior team members to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Provide guidance, knowledge support, and best practices on R2R and close activities.

Act as a backup to the Team Lead during critical close periods, as required

Skills & Experience

  • 6 -8 years experience in R2R GL accounting operations
  • Strong English language skills
  • Strong MS Excel skills with a proven aptitude to interpret financial data
  • Basic knowledge of finance business processes, accounting policies, and statutory accounting principles to ensure compliant SSC operations
  • Basic knowledge of core finance systems, ERP and related specialty functional systems, frameworks, and functionality
  • Ability to perform tasks independently with minimal guidance or direction
  • Appropriately applies concepts, methods, and terminology associated with generally accepted accounting practices/operations to new or ambiguous situations
  • Ability to interact with company stakeholders to ensure a high quality of service, while balancing expectations and realisations
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with a proactive approach, accustomed to working towards tight deadlines whilst maintaining quality of work

Beneficial to have:

  • Qualified accountant (AAT/CIMA/ACCA/ACA or global equivalent) or qualified by experience
  • Experience with MS Dynamics and Great Plains preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, or other business-related discipline
