Zonal Head - Legal will be responsible for managing all legal matters across Godrej Properties operations in multiple metro cities. This leadership role will include overseeing litigation, contract management, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation strategies to support the company's business objectives. The person will provide strategic legal counsel to senior management while ensuring that all corporate activities comply with relevant laws and regulations.

About The Role

As a Legal Associate Vice President for the Western Zone, you'll oversee land acquisition, due diligence, real estate transactions, litigation and compliance across multiple cities. Collaborating with senior management, you'll drive legal strategy, efficiency and team performance to support growth and safeguard interests.

Key responsibilities

  • Legal operations and compliance
  • Lead land acquisition initiatives, including title due diligence and document registration, across the Western Zone (Pune, Kolkata, Nagpur, Ahmedabad and other cities)
  • Draft, review, and vet critical legal documents such as contracts, agreements and commercial documentation
  • Ensure compliance with industry-specific laws and regulations in all cities under your purview
  • Oversee arbitration proceedings, ensuring cost-effective and timely legal resolutions for regional projects
  • Litigation management
  • Oversee civil and commercial litigation cases across the zone, providing risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Manage and guide external counsel, ensuring effective case management and successful outcomes
  • Lead dispute resolution efforts, including arbitration and manage the full pre- and post-litigation process
  • Advisory and risk mitigation
  • Provide expert legal opinions and solutions for land-related transactions, foreign investments and regional legal challenges
  • Advise senior management on risk mitigation strategies, particularly in real estate and property law within the Western Zone
  • Develop and manage frameworks for liaising with government authorities and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution
  • Team leadership
  • Set clear goals and objectives for team members across multiple cities, ensuring alignment with the organisation's strategic vision
  • Oversee team performance, conduct regular appraisals and lead engagement initiatives to drive high performance
  • Mentor and develop legal talent, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and excellence
  • Process improvement
  • Enhance and streamline legal processes for land acquisition, commercial documentation and compliance to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs
  • Identify and implement best practices to improve legal procedures, ensuring productivity and cost-effectiveness across the zone

Who are we looking for

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law (LLB/LLM)

Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in legal roles, preferably in the real estate or related industries

Skills

  • Proven expertise in land acquisition, litigation management and commercial documentation across multi-city operations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a zonal capacity
