Senior Full-Stack Engineer
Clinical Web Applications · React + Node.js | Full-Time | Chennai (On-site)
Job Summary
RhythmRx is hiring a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to design and build our clinical web applications end-to-end — the clinician, caregiver, and care-team dashboards that turn continuous patient data into clear, actionable views. You will own the application layer: performant, multi-role React applications that consume real-time data streams to render live ECG waveforms, vitals trends, and near-real-time alerts, backed by clean Node.js/Express services and well-modelled PostgreSQL data. Our cloud team owns the telemetry pipeline and streaming infrastructure; this role owns the applications that sit on top of it. The ideal candidate is a strong, experienced full-stack engineer who has built real-time, data-dense web applications and writes secure, reliable code in a regulated, patient-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Front-End – Clinical Web Applications
- Build scalable, responsive, multi-role React applications for clinicians, caregivers, and care-team/command-center users with clean component architecture.
- Render real-time medical data, including live ECG waveforms, vitals trends, and longitudinal views that update continuously and remain accurate under load.
- Consume real-time data streams (WebSocket/SSE) while handling reconnection, backpressure, and graceful degradation.
- Build intuitive alerting and escalation interfaces with configurable thresholds, and create clear loading, empty, and error states across every workflow.
- Convert Figma designs into pixel-perfect, accessible (WCAG-compliant) interfaces while optimising for fast load times, small bundle sizes, and excellent Core Web Vitals.
Back-End – Application Layer
- Build robust REST and/or GraphQL APIs and a Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layer using Node.js and Express that integrates with cloud platform services.
- Design and optimise PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and indexes for application performance and data integrity.
- Implement secure authentication and authorisation using JWT, OAuth, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
- Apply secure coding practices, including input validation, refresh-token rotation, rate limiting, XSS/CSRF protection, and audit logging.
- Improve backend performance through caching, pagination, latency reduction, and query optimisation.
Shared Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Clinical, and QA teams to deliver high-quality software.
- Work closely with clinical subject-matter experts to ensure medical data is displayed accurately.
- Identify scalability and performance challenges early and design solutions before production deployment.
- Proactively communicate blockers, risks, and dependencies.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term preventive solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building production-grade full-stack (MERN) web applications across both frontend and backend (flexible for an exceptional candidate).
- Experience developing real-time, data-intensive user interfaces using WebSocket or Server-Sent Events (SSE) for continuously updating dashboards, charts, or waveforms.
- Strong expertise in React, including Hooks, Redux/Zustand/Context API, component architecture, and frontend performance optimisation.
- Strong Node.js and Express experience with REST API development, middleware, validation, error handling, and security best practices.
- Proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.
- Solid PostgreSQL knowledge, including data modelling, indexing, and query optimisation.
- Experience implementing authentication and authorisation using JWT, OAuth, and RBAC.
- Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and modern styling frameworks such as Tailwind CSS, SCSS, CSS-in-JS, or styled-components.
- Knowledge of scalable application architecture, including caching, pagination, queues, and rate limiting.
- Strong debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- English — mandatory; Tamil — preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Healthcare or clinical web applications, patient-data workflows (HIPAA/PHI), and familiarity with India's ABDM ecosystem.
- Exposure to regulated software development environments, including ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and audit logging practices.
- Medical data visualisation, including ECG waveform rendering, vitals monitoring, configurable alerts, and longitudinal trend analysis.
- Building real-time systems with low-latency data pipelines, offline-first capabilities, and resilient architectures.
- DevOps experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability.
- Performance optimisation of React and Node.js applications through profiling and memory optimisation.
