About the Role:
The Senior Financial Accountant role is a technically focused position responsible for delivering high-quality statutory and group financial reporting across multiple jurisdictions. This role is designed for a senior accountant with strong technical judgement, deep financial reporting experience, and working knowledge of APRA-regulated environments, who can operate confidently in complex leasing, funding, and multi-entity structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyze statutory financial statements, internal management reporting and group reporting
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (IFRS, AASB, NZ IFRS, SRFS, etc) and regulatory requirements
- Manage general ledger functions and maintain accurate financial records
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes
- Coordinate and support external audits, liaising with auditors, prepare audit-ready working papers aligned to regulator and prudential review standards
- Prepare, review and oversee account reconciliations and journal entries
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes, controls, and automation
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
- Contribute to the design, maintenance, and improvement of internal controls and governance frameworks
- Mentor and supervise junior accounting staff, providing training and guidance
- Support tax compliance and preparation of tax returns in collaboration with tax advisors
- Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis for management as needed

Skills and Competencies:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- CA / CPA qualification with minimum 5+ years post qualification experience in financial accounting and statutory reporting, preferably in a complex or regulated environment
- Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior and supervisory role
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and local statutory reporting requirements
- Experience in leasing, asset-based finance, or funding structures highly regarded Working knowledge or prior exposure to APRA-regulated entities or prudential reporting environments strongly preferred Experience with SAP, Navision, or similar ERP systems advantageous
- Advance excel skills, familiarity with automation or finance transformations
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain accounting matters to non-specialists
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently based on logical assumptions and available data even when the information is incomplete.
