Job Description
The Experience Design Leader is the senior, on‑the‑ground design leader for our India-based Experience Design teams. This role exists to
extend the standards, ways of working, and culture of the U.S. Experience Design organization into India and ensure that work produced offshore meets the same bar for quality, consistency, and impact.
This leader is accountable for
design quality, team morale, operational excellence, and strong partnership with U.S.-based design leaders. They act as the connective tissue between regions, ensuring teams in India feel aligned, supported, and proud of the work they deliver.
What You'll Do
Design Quality & Craft Leadership
- Own the quality of design outputs produced by India-based teams across multiple workstreams.
- Ensure work consistently meets U.S. Bank experience standards, accessibility requirements, and design system guidelines.
- Provide hands-on design direction, review, and coaching to raise craft maturity and consistency.
- Champion human-centered design, inclusive practices, and reuse at scale.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop Experience Designers based in India.
- Build a strong, healthy team culture focused on trust, accountability, growth, and pride in craft.
- Actively monitor team morale, engagement, and well-being, escalating risks and addressing issues early.
- Create clear career guidance and development paths in partnership with U.S. design leadership.
Operating Model & Delivery Excellence
- Operationalize U.S. Bank Experience Design ways of working within India teams (planning, critiques, reviews, handoffs).
- Ensure teams are planning work effectively, estimating consistently, and delivering predictably.
- Partner closely with U.S. Design, Product, and Technology leaders to align priorities, scope, and expectations.
- Identify and remove delivery friction related to time zones, process gaps, or unclear ownership.
Partnership & Influence
- Serve as the primary India-based point of contact for U.S. Experience Design leadership.
- Build strong working relationships with Product, Engineering, and Delivery partners locally.
- Represent Experience Design in India-based forums, planning discussions, and leadership conversations.
- Act as a voice of the India teams back to U.S. leadership, sharing insights, risks, and opportunities.
Scaling & Capability Building
- Support the build‑out and scaling of Experience Design teams in India as the model expands.
- Help onboard new teams to U.S. Bank design standards, tools, and expectations.
- Identify skills gaps and learning needs and partner with leadership to address them.
- Contribute to evolving the global Experience Design operating model over time.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in experience design, product design, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience leading design teams and overseeing multi‑project delivery.
- Strong understanding of human-centered design, accessibility, design systems, and agile delivery models.
- Proven ability to maintain quality and clarity across global teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with U.S.-based product or design organizations.
- Experience scaling or standing up offshore or global delivery teams.
- Strong coaching and people‑leadership skills, with a track record of building healthy team cultures.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate expectations clearly across regions and levels.
