Job Description
The Senior Environmental Specialist supports WSP Italy Sustainability Services by providing technical leadership on environmental and environmental & social assignments. The role contributes to international and multi-disciplinary projects, acting as a senior technical reference for Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Due Diligence activities in line with international lender standards
Responsibilities
- Lead environmental components of Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessments (ESHIA), including baseline studies, impact assessment and management measures
- Act as Senior Environmental Specialist on Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD), ESMS and post-finance monitoring assignments
- Identify environmental and social risks and impacts, defining mitigation measures and corrective action plans in line with international standards
- Prepare and review Environmental and Social Management Plans and monitoring frameworks
- Provide technical advisory support to lender-financed projects and ESIA compliance reviews
- Prepare and review high-quality technical reports and contribute to proposals and tender documentation
- Coordinate with Project Managers and collaborate with WSP international environmental and ESG teams
- Support and mentor junior team members, contributing to knowledge sharing within the team
Qualifications
- Master's degree (or PhD) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geology or related disciplines
- Minimum 8 years of post-graduate experience in environmental and social consultancy, preferably in an international context
- Proven experience on projects in developing countries, ideally within a consultancy environment
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of International Environmental and Social Standards (World Bank, IFC, EBRD, ADB, AfDB, OECD, Equator Principles)
- Previous experience in development of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Environmental and Social Management Systems EHS Due Diligence
- Environmental modelling tools (air, noise, water) and GIS applications (desirable)

- Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to contribute to written reports and client-facing materials.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Methodical approach to problem solving and a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong team player, with the ability to collaborate and network with colleagues across different offices and regions.
- Excellent English (written and spoken) is required.
BGV:
- Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification (BGV) check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India.
